    Kane Williamson | SRH Skipper

We are going to have a bowl. After a few conversations with guys who have played here, we think it should be a consistent surface. Three changes: Nabi, Bhuvi and Samad are back. Warner, Suchit and Kaul miss out on this one. We know that as a group we need to come together and build on the positive parts.

It has been difficult, but we need to pull together now. This captaincy change is very sudden, so I just need to pick up and make the small adjustments which hopefully will reflect on the result.

The goal for the last half of the campaign is to improve our performances. There are many areas we need to improve, wickets in the powerplay is one. We have to do our best with our resources and it’s important we adjust to the conditions.

    Sanju Samson | RR Skipper

The last match we played here was a noon game as well and it’s good to set a strong total. You only look for a good start in the powerplay and build up from there.

Two changes: Unadkat is resting and Tyagi comes in. Anuj Rawat is making his debut in place of Shivam Dube. We just want to keep it simple and express ourselves, see the ball and react accordingly.

Finally, Vijay Shankar in the 17th over dismissed Samson for 48 runs and breaks the partnership. While Jos Buttler makes his maiden IPL century in the same over.

    Sunrisers Hyderabad Batting

RR needs to pick early wickets as the SRH too loads with quality strikers in their list. But RR fails to pick the early wickets and let SRH to score 57 runs for no wicket loss at the end of the power play.

Mustafizur in the very next over dismissed Manish Pandey for 31 runs and draws the first blood. In the followed over Rahul Tewatia dismissed the dangerous batsman Bairstow for 30 runs. These two back-to-back wickets slow the SRH’s run rate. At the end of the 10 overs, SRH scored 82 runs for 2 wickets loss.

Chris Morris in the following over dismissed Shankar for 8 runs. SRH needs to build a match-winning partnership which could save the SRH’s ship from sinking.

SRH skipper too loses his wicket soon and walks to the pavilion after scoring 20 runs. SRH starts to collapse as a deck of cards and starts to lose wickets in a regular interval.

Harpreet Brar dismissed Virat Kohli, Maxwell and ABD in his debut match of IPL 2021

Harpreet Brar, playing his first match of IPL 2021 and third overall for the franchise, bagged 3 wickets for 19 runs from his 4 overs to help PBKS successfully defend 179 against RCB, who managed 145 for 8 from their 20 overs.

Harpreet Brar on his IPL 2021 Debut

Punjab Kings left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar’s performance took everybody by surprise on Friday as he singlehandedly won the contest for his team with the ball against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Match 26 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 in Ahmedabad.

Harpreet Brar changed the game flow by dismissing the RCB’s star players likes of Virat Kohli, Maxwell and AB de Villiers in a span of less than 10 deliveries.

“My plan against AB de Villiers was to bowl a touch wider outside off-stump and out of his slot since the ball was gripping a bit. That’s why I brought in a slip and had covers to come up slightly.

“I wanted to bowl a dot but also managed to get a wicket. I am blessed,” Brar said after his match-winning spell of 3/19 in 4 overs,” Brar said.

Brar also revealed his mindset when he was bowling to RCB skipper Virat Kohli before getting him out clean bowled for 35.

“My strategy was to hit the right length and not worry even if he hits me for a boundary. If the batsman charges down the track then you alter the length,” Brar said.

The 25-year-old from Moga also scored 25 not out off 17 balls during Punjab’s innings. PBKS had posted 179 for 5 on the board after being asked to bat first. Skipper KL Rahul top-scored with 91 not out while Chris Gayle contributed with 46 runs to the team’s total.

Brar was adjudged Player of the Match for his all-round efforts.

“I just wanted to play bindaas (carefree) cricket come what may. I didn’t want to take too much stress and play my natural game,” Brar said.

Kane Williamson replaces David Warner as SRH Skipper

Kane Williamson will be taking over the captaincy role of the Sunrisers Hyderabad side from David Warner for the remainder of IPL 2021, the franchise confirmed on Saturday.

    Kane Williamson Replaces Warner

SRH took to their official Twitter handle to announce the news. The Twitter post reads as “SunRisers Hyderabad would like to announce that Kane Williamson will be taking over the captaincy for tomorrow’s match and for the remainder of IPL 2021. The team management has also made the decision that they will be changing their overseas combination for tomorrow’s match against Rajasthan Royals.”

“This decision has not come lightly as the management respects the enormous impact David Warner has had for the franchise over a number of years. As we face the remainder of the season we are sure David will continue to help us strive for success both on and off the field.”

SRH holds the last position of the IPL 2021 points table with the only victory of the 6 matches played so far. SRH’s next game is against the Rajasthan Royals on Sunday and the overseas players combinations will also change for this game.

David Warner has not been able to get going like his usual self at the top of the order this year and has managed only 193 runs in 6 games.

    Sehwag Suggested earlier

Earlier responding to a Cricbuzz question Virender Sehwag claims that Kane Williamson should take over the captaincy from David Warner for the remainder of the season

“Can be changed,” Sehwag said responding to Cricbuzz’s question over the swapping Warner with Williamson as captain. “Punjab (Punjab Kings) and Kolkata (Kolkata Knight Riders) have changed it in the past.”

“They (SRH) have faith in Warner, he has won them a title. He’s been leading them for 2-3 years. For me, Kane Williamson is the better option,”  he added.

Cricket South Africa will bid to host the 2027 men’s Cricket WC, acting president Rihan Richards said on Friday.

Cricket South Africa bid to host 2027 WC

Richards made the announcement at a press conference at which details of a new governance model for CSA were revealed following months of wrangling. He said agreement on the composition of a new board, with a majority of independent directors, would enable CSA to put the focus firmly back on cricket matters.

Richards said South Africa will take part in a bidding process for International Cricket Council events over a new eight-year cycle. Bidding is expected to open within the next few months.

“We will be bidding for both men’s and women’s World Cups, an Under-19 World Cup and a T20 World Cup,” said Richards.

“But our focus will be on the 2027 men’s World Cup. We believe it is an ideal opportunity as it will be 24 years since we last hosted it.”

South Africa staged the 2003 men’s World Cup and the 2005 women’s World Cup as well as the inaugural 2007 World T20 and the 2009 Champions Trophy. It also has staged two Under-19 tournaments.

Sports minister Nathi Mthethwa earlier announced he would no longer be withdrawing government recognition of CSA, which he threatened last week after the failure of the members’ council, headed by Richards, to reach an agreement with an interim board on a governance structure.

Mthethwa attended Friday’s conference and said he would now move aside after a process which he said was “between life and death in cricket”.

Interim board chairman Stavros Nicolaou said a target date of June 12 had been set for an annual general meeting –- postponed from last October -– at which a 15-member board would be installed, with eight independent directors and five nominated by the members’ council as well as the chief executive and chief financial officer of CSA. There will be an independent chairman.

Shoaib Malik Cleared Regarding his Retirement Plan

Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik made it clear that he has no intentions of taking retirement from cricket.

    Shoaib Malik on his Retirement

“I am saying very clearly today I have not even thought about retirement. I have no plans to retire now because I am fit, I can bat, and I can bowl,” the 39-year-old batsman told the media on Friday.

Malik had recently taken shots at the Pakistan team management in a series of tweets, inferring that captain Babar Azam was not being allowed to take his independent decisions and the head coach had personal likes and dislikes in selecting players.

He also called for the appointment of a white ball coach for the national team.

    Shoaib Malik
    Shoaib Malik and Afridi

“I have recently signed two-year contracts in some leagues so where does the question of me taking retirement after the World Cup arise,” he said.

Malik made it clear that he was very fit and a performer.

“I can field in hotspots, I can take two runs and I can save two runs. When I have to bowl I can also bowl and I am batting well. My fitness is top grade,” he said.

Malik, despite now focus sing only on T20 format since retiring from Test and ODI matches, has been kept out of the Pakistan white ball squad since last year as head coach Misbah-ul-Haq keep on trying several new players in the batting order.

Malik apparently has made it clear to the head coach that even if they consider selecting him again he will bat at number four on a set position and not be moved around like in the past.

Malik also made the point that whenever he played in the Pakistan Super League or other foreign leagues he kept on performing in the shortest format and even now worked very hard on his fitness to compete with younger players.

The veteran all-rounder has played in 35 Tests, 287 one-day internationals and 116 T20 internationals for his country.

BCCI Fails to Pay the Match Fees for Bihar Cricket Players

Prashant Singh claims that he has not been paid match fees by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the last two seasons.
Prashant Singh claims that he has not been paid match fees by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the last two seasons.

Prashant Singh, a 21-year-old fast bowler from Bihar, claims that he has not been paid match fees by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the last two seasons.

    Bihar Cricket Players slams BCCI

Cricketers from the state’s Under-23, the Under-19 and the senior team await payment from the BCCI for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 season.

The BCCI has also dragged its feet on the compensation package for players, announced in December by its secretary Jay Shah, following a truncated season minus the Ranji Trophy.

At the same time, Bihar players have been waiting for match fees.

“Every time I get a message on my phone I presume money has been deposited. Last year I had to get my elder sister married. I borrowed money, hoping to repay when I get match fees. I lost my father in 2016. I haven’t received money till date. Now my elder brother has tested positive for the coronavirus. I don’t know where I will get money from,” Prashant, who is to receive about Rs 8 lakh, told The Indian Express from Chhapra.

    BCCI
    BCCI

The reason for the delay, according to a senior BCA official, was ‘error in vouchers’ submitted by the state unit to the BCCI. BCA president Rakesh Tiwary claimed the vouchers have been forwarded to the BCCI once again. A senior BCCI official said they would have to scrutinise the documents again before releasing payments.

“We had earlier sent invoices to BCCI but they informed us that there was an error in the documentation. All the invoices have been sent again (in March) and payment will be received soon,” Tiwary said.

As a result of this administrative impasse, the players have been left in the lurch.

Prashant says Bihar Cricket Association officials, who have been wrangling, continue to make empty promises.

“We have been hearing this for the last one year. ‘Money will be deposited next month’ is what we are told. Our financial situation is dire at the moment,” Prashant said.

    BCCI blames BCA

The BCCI official passed the buck to the state association. “Due to some issue within the association this situation has arisen,” the BCCI official said.

The Indian Express spoke to cricketers across age groups who confirmed that they have not been paid yet.

“We are talking about it almost every day. We check with each other if the money has been deposited. But nobody has received it. In these tough times, money is very important. Some of us have emailed top BCCI officials but we have not got a reply,” a senior player said.

Match fees for cricketers vary for each format. A cricketer is paid approximately Rs 40,000 per day for the Ranji Trophy, which was not conducted last season.

The BCCI held the Syed Mushtaq T20 and the 50-over Vijay Hazare tournaments in 2020-21. The match fees for the 50-over game is Rs 25,000, and Rs 12,500 for the T20 match.

    Under-23 players are paid Rs 63,000 for a four-day game and Rs 17,500 for a one-day game.

As per procedure, players have to submit an invoice to their respective state associations at the end of a tournament. The association then verifies them and forwards it to the BCCI which releases the payment to the players.

Shahbaz comes in for Sundar looking at the composition of their side. Even when you win games, you need to rectify stuff. We have stepped in with six or seven bowling options each game, so that gives me a lot of comfort and space. The bowlers have been on their mark, all credit to them.

    KL Rahul | PBKS Skipper

We have always found ourselves in this position, we just have to go out there and put up a show tonight. We have three changes. Henriques and Arshdeep are out, Mayank is not feeling too well as he got hit in the last game. Meredith, Prabhsimran and Harpreet are in. It’s (inconsistency) something we have spoken about. My first IPL wicket was Kohli Paaji’s wicket and that was very special. It came out in a flow after that, your body opens up, you get confident and things fall in place. When I came out to bat, I had the time to wait for a couple of overs.

BCCI has confirmed that T20 WC 2021 will be held in the United Arab Emirates(UAE) if the COVID-19 crisis continues at the scheduled time of it occurrence.

    T20 WC 2021 in UAE

One of the major attractions for India this year is the T20 World Cup slated for October-November this year.

Before the second wave hit India, BCCI had zeroed in venues for the T20 World Cup. Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Dharamsala, Ahmedabad and Lucknow.

“The nine venues have been informed and it was again discussed that preparations should continue for the showpiece event with an eye on the Covid-19 situation and a call will only be taken closer to the event.

It is too early to imagine what can or will happen in October-November with regards to the coronavirus situation. But preparations shall be on,” a BCCI source had told ANI a fortnight back.

Owing to the ongoing spike in the coronavirus issue India prepares the backup plan to host the T20 World Cup 2021. Though BCCI claims that they cannot confirm the future arrangement based on the present situation they still comes up with a plan B.

“It would be the UAE,” Malhotra, who is the BCCI’s General Manager of Game Development, told the BBC’s Stumped podcast.

“We’re hoping again that it would be done by the BCCI. So, we’ll take the tournament there, but it’ll still be done by the BCCI. “I’ve just been named one of the tournament directors, so I’m doing everything we can to make sure it happens (in India).

“We will be doing the normal scenario, COVID scenario, and worst-case scenario, so with all that we’re talking to the ICC at the moment.

“As of now, we are targeting and looking at ticket sales and people travelling from all over the world. But again, we don’t know what the situation will be at that point in time (in October).”

The UAE proved its ability to stage a major T20 tournament by hosting last year’s Indian Premier League(IPL 2020), holding 60 matches at just three venues – in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah – in a little more than seven weeks, all in a bio-secure bubble.

Further, the right-hander also talked about his batting and stated that “timing the ball really well’ is something he has been doing since his childhood days. The Maharashtra batsman is aiming to increase his strength now. Gaikwad also praised his opening partner and former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis.

“I think, I have been timing the ball really well since a very young age and thankfully I have maintained it till now. I would like to increase my strength as well but it was all about from young age, batting practice and working on timing and then it came naturally to me,” said Ruturaj.

“I think we have a really good understanding between each other. We quickly come up to each other and share our thoughts and I think that’s a plus point, to have such an experience and amazing player (Faf) at the nonstrikers’ end,” said Ruturaj.

With CSK’s aggressive batting and bowling form MS Dhoni led Chennai franchises holds the top position in the IPL 2021 points table.

In the video message, which was tweeted by the official account of Blood Donors India, the pair commended the resilence of the child and prayed for his well-being.

“Hi Priyanshu, Hope you are doing well now. I heard about your operation. I just want to say you’ve been strong through it and very brave. You’ve gotten over the first hurdle and you will recover soon and you will be back in India in no time,” Virat Kohli said.

AB de Villiers then continued and said, “From my side I just want to say you really inspire us. Everything you’ve been through has been a very big challenge for you. And I want to congratulate you for being so strong and for being so motivated through this whole process. I hope everything goes well and you be strong enough to make it to your homeland.”

After clinching a nail-biting victory against Delhi Capitals in their previous encounter, RCB skipper Kohli said that the luxury of having depth in the bowling department is faring well for the team this season. Kohli had used seven bowlers in the game and also had the option of handing the ball to all-rounder Glenn Maxwell.

Currently RCB holds the third position in the IPL 2021 points table with five victories off the 6 league matches played sofar. RCB is scheuled to play the next league match against Punjab Kings on 30-04-2021.

Glenn Maxwell Comes With a Solution For Returning to Australia

Star Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell says that he, along with other cricketers of his country, wouldn’t mind being on the same chartered flight that would take India, New Zealand, and England players to the United Kingdom after the IPL.

A senior BCCI official agreed that the option could be explored by looking at the international travel guidelines during the last week of May as all commercial flights from India to Australia are banned at the moment due to sky-rocketing cases of COVID-19 here.

“We just want to find a way to go home. The BCCI, both governments can work a solution. If we have to wait bit longer, so be it but there is a way to get home at some stage,” Maxwell told “The Final Word Podcast” conducted by journalists Geoff Lemon and Adam Collins.

“India and England are going to play in England. Worst comes to worst, we have to wait in England and try and find a way out in that chartered (flight) and get out of India. I am sure a lot of guys will try and put their hand up in trying to do that as well,” Maxwell said.

India and New Zealand are set to fight it out in the World Test Championship final from June 18 and will fly to England for that after the IPL ends. England players in the ongoing league are expected to accompany them in the same flight.

BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal said the idea could be explored as BCCI looks at several options for all the overseas players’ safe passage back to their respective countries in times of travel restrictions.

“Travelling to England and going to Australia from there could be an option that can be explored. There will be various options and obviously, BCCI will try and take the safest one which doesn’t compromise any of the players’ health and security,” Dhumal told PTI.

For Maxwell, it’s about figuring the safest route that they can avail once the IPL is over as the bio-bubble is expected to break after that. There are 14 Australian players still remaining in the league after three pullouts.

“Once IPL finishes and potentially the bubble will be broken, you don’t want to be stuck here, just try and look for the safest way to move on,” the ‘Big Show’ said.

“It’s something I floated to Vinnie (fiancee), if things go extremely south, a whole lot worse, what are we actually supposed to do if there is no help? I am sure there will be help from BCCI to accommodate the overseas players at the moment,” he added.

While Maxwell acknowledged that the health situation in India with above 3 lakh positive cases every day, is grim, the BCCI has managed to create a “solid bio-bubble.”

“It’s changed pretty fast in India but we have been sheltered well in the bubble. We are not really exposed too much (to the outside world). We straight move into the hotel, trying to stick to franchise’s business as usual, that is playing your sport…”

Maxwell said that while he kept in touch with Kane Richardson and Adam Zampa, who left fearing a lockdown after travel restrictions were in place, he thought it was prudent to stay back and wait for things to improve.

“That’s probably a situation I will be wary about, making one of these decisions and sort of being stuck. Obviously, the government said that they are going to shut borders from India and that’s pretty scary if you are stuck over here.

“We are just hoping, come May 15, hopefully things improve and there’s a lot of work to do, here in India. You see countless people stuck in hospitals needing that extra support, long way to go before it gets better.”

    Australian PM on Player’s Return

Australian PM Scott Morrison said that since all the Australians participating in the IPL has gone their on their own, they won’t get preferential treatment in assistance to return.

“There are 5000 Aussies in India at the moment. We are not asking for preferential treatment, we are just hopeful that things can start to take an upside in India and we can hopefully find a way to get home safely.”

“We knew it was getting bad when we came here…. We do turn the TV on, news channels showing 24×7…It is hard to swallow. We had at one point, 700 cases in Australia. It’s nothing compared to what’s happened here,” he said.
