BCCI announces the step-by-step guidance for the team India players for the World Test Championship(WTC) finals.

Indian players will undergo three RT-PCR tests before assembling in Mumbai on May 19 if they return negative tests. The players will then quarantine for 14 days before departing to England on June 2, if they stay COVID19 negative.

The agency also quoted a BCCI official about the vaccination plan for the players. Many players, including captain Virat Kohli, R Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja, have already taken the vaccine.

“The Indian government has opened vaccination for every person above 18 so the players can take their first dose. But the second dose is the question here and while the BCCI is looking at working closely with England and Wales Cricket Board to ensure players can get a second dose in the UK, if that is not approved by the UK government, we will have the vaccine taken from India for the second dose. Let’s see how that works out in the coming days.”

The players can arrive in Mumbai by either flight or road. The BCCI will reportedly not arrange a charter flight for anyone who is found to have contracted the virus.

“The players have been informed to consider their tour over if they are found positive on their arrival in Mumbai as BCCI will not arrange another charter flight for any cricketer,” The Indian Express had earlier quoted a source as saying.

As many as 20 players including four standby players have been picked for the tour. One of the standby bowlers, Prasidh Krishna, had tested positive for COVID-19 at the fag end of the now-suspended IPL 2021. It is expected that the KKR bowler will be fit by the time the team departs.

Check the Reason Why Prithvi Shaw was Not Included in WTC Squad

As the Indian cricket team is gearing up for the World Test Championship (WTC) and the England series after, one question that bothered fans was the exclusion of Prithvi Shaw.

After showcased an impressive performance in IPL 2021 the aggressive opener has been left out from the WTC squad. Later it is revealed that owing to his fitness issue the 21 year old batsman has been dropped out of the long format squad.

    Prithvi Shaw misses WTC

A report in TOI says Shaw is slow between the wickets and still has weight issues. A selector has also asked the Mumbaikar to learn from Rishabh Pant who had his own issues once.

“Prithvi is still very slow across the turf for a 21-year-old. He needs to shed a few more kilos. He also had concentration issues while fielding in Australia. Shaw has been working hard since he returned from Australia. He has the example of Rishabh Pant right in front of him. If Pant can turn things around in a few months, Prithvi too can do it,” the BCCI source was quoted as saying.

He was also told to be a bit consistent and sustain the form in a couple of series as he has often failed to justify the faith shown in him by the selectors.

“He has to sustain this form for a few more tournaments. He has often been picked on the basis of one good series and then he has struggled in international cricket, He is too good a player to be ignored for long,” the source added.

    Sarandip Singh Backs Shaw

Former selector Sarandip Singh has said that the management must back the 21-year-old as he has the potential to be someone like Virender Sehwag.

“He has the potential to do what Sehwag did for India. You can’t sideline him so early in his career. He has scored tons of runs in domestic cricket after being dropped post the Australia tour. He has corrected his technical flaws also, and look how he played in the IPL,” Sarandeep told PTI.

Vaughan Breaks the Difference Between Kohli and Kane Williamson

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has said that New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson would have been the “greatest player in the world” if he was from India, adding that a person is not allowed to say that Virat Kohli is not the greatest.

Vaughan compares Virat and Kane Williamson

Vaughan went on to add that not calling Kohli the greatest is an open invitation to get “pelted” by his fans on social media.

The 46-year-old did not stop there and minced no words in declaring Williamson as Kohli’s equal, except for the 100 million Instagram followers and the amount of money the Indian captain makes every year.

    Kohli and Kane Williamson
    Kohli and Kane Williamson

“If Kane Williamson was Indian, he’d be the greatest player in the world, but he’s not because you’re not allowed to say that Virat Kohli is not the greatest, because you’d get an absolute pelting on social media,” Vaughan had told Spark Sport earlier this month.

“I think Kane Williamson is up there with the great players across the three formats and he certainly matches Virat Kohli.

“It’s just he doesn’t have the 100 million followers on Instagram and doesn’t earn the $30-40 million or whatever Virat gets every year for his commercial endorsements.

“But in terms of quality and what he brings on the pitch and his consistency I wouldn’t back against Kane Williamson getting more runs pro-rata – let’s say three tests for Kane and six for Virat – pro-rata I think Kane may score a few more runs than Virat this summer,” Vaughan added.

The two modern-day greats of the game will be facing each other in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) from June 18 in Southampton.

Williamson, the number one ranked Test batsman in the world, averaged 83 with the bat from his 4 matches in the longest format in 2020. He has played only 1 Test in 2021, scoring 238 runs in one inning of it.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli ranked 5th in the Test format, averaged 19.33 in his 3 Test matches in 2020. This year he has played 4 Tests to score 172 runs at an average of 28.66.

In 50-over cricket, Kane Williamson scored 948 runs at an average of 59.25 in 20 matches in 2019. In 2022, he played 2 matches and scored 41 runs.

Virat Kohli scored 1,377 runs in 26 matches at an average of 59.86 in 2019. The following year he scored 439 runs in 9 matches at an average of 47.88. Kohli is placed 2nd in the ODI ranking, while Williamson is 12th in the list.

Michael Vaughan has time and called Virat Kohli the greatest ever ODI cricketer to have played the game.

Harry Gurney - former Kolkata Knight Riders player announces retirement from all forms of cricket
    Harry Gurney

Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and England left-arm speedster Harry Gurney has decided to retire from cricket following a shoulder injury.

Gurney, 34, was part of KKR in 2019, and had picked up seven wickets in eight matches. His best figures of two for 25 came against Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

    Harry Gurney Announces Retirement

Gurney announced his retirement plans on social media. “The time has arrived for me to hang up my boots. After trying to recover from the recent injury to my shoulder I am truly disappointed to have to end my playing career as a result of it,” he wrote.

“From the first time I picked up a cricket ball at the age of ten, I was completely obsessed. Cricket has been my life for 24 years and has taken me on an incredible journey that I will cherish forever. Playing for England, IPL and winning eight trophies at home and abroad including the blast, big bash and CPL has exceeded my wildest dreams.”

Reacting to Gurney’s announcement, KKR tweeted:

“We wish @harrygurney a successful retirement life, and would like to thank him for all the happy memories — especially the one vs RR where a dramatic sandstorm turned into a magical #IPL debut in Jaipur 2019.”

In an interview with KKR last year, Gurney had said: “Playing in Eden Gardens in front of 70,000 people was just the most incredible cricketing and life experience for me. What sets (the IPL) apart, I think, is the passion and love for the game in India. I feel really lucky to have experienced it once.”

The Nottingham-born Gurney played 10 ODIs and two T20 Internationals for England in 2014.

Gurney represented Nottinghamshire, Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash, Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League and Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League.

Ramesh Powar - New Indian women's Cricket team coach

Former India off-spinner Ramesh Powar has been appointed by the BCCI as the head coach of the senior India Women’s team.

Powar’s candidature was finalised and recommended to the board by a three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Sulakshana Naik, Madan Lal, and RP Singh.

Ramesh Powar appointed as India Women’s Coach

A total of 35 applicants for the post were received with the committee shortlisting six candidates and interviewing three hopefuls on Wednesday. Incumbent coach WV Raman, who guided the team to the final of the T20 WC in Australia last year, was an automatic entry in the shortlist.

Incidentally, Raman had replaced Powar at the job in December 2018 after a controversial five-month stint for the Mumbaikar that included a public fallout with veteran cricketer Mithali Raj during the T20 WC in the Caribbean.

“All the best @imrameshpowar with the @BCCIWomen in this spell.. Look forward to seeing the girls soar under your guidance,” tweeted Raman.

“All of us in the committee felt Ramesh Powar was the best candidate and it was a unanimous choice,” Madan Lal, BCCI Cricket Advisory Committee head, said.

“As far as him working together with Mithali Raj is concerned, there should not be any problem. Mithali’s job as a captain is to focus on her role and she should work to take the team forward.”

    Ramesh Powar Carrier

In his playing career, Powar played two Tests and 31 ODIs for India from 2004 to 2007, taking a total of 40 international wickets.

His domestic career spanned from 1999-00 to 2015, as an off-spinning allrounder of considerable skill. He took 470 first-class wickets (average 31.31) while also scoring 4245 first-class runs (average 26.53) in 148 games.

He played 113 List A matches, taking 142 wickets and hitting 1082 runs. Powar played 28 T20 games, including in the IPL for Kings XI Punjab(now renamed as Punjab Kings) and Kochi Tuskers Kerala.

Mohammad Azharuddin played Helicopter Shot before MS Dhoni

Indian former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin introduced the “Helicopter Shot” a long way before the MS Dhoni did.

Indian former skipper MS Dhoni made a huge impact on Indian cricket history by becoming the first-ever captain to lift all three ICC trophies. Apart from his wicket-keeping skill former Indian cricketer made a huge impact in India’s batting order.

Playing in lower-order MSD made a massive impact by contributing some match-winning knock including World Cup 2011 finals.

Under MSD’s captaincy, India lifts the ICC world cup after 28 years. MS Dhoni gathered a massive fan base with his power-hitting style. One such power-hitting shot has been named as Helicopter Shot becomes very famous among cricket fans.

    Mohammad Azharuddin Introduced Helicopter Shot

An exemplary example of Dhoni’s iconic helicopter shot was witnessed during the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup final against Sri Lanka at Wankhede, a moment which saw the Men In Blue lift their second World Cup trophy, since Kapil Dev’s 1983.

However, after Dhoni, many tried to emulate the wicketkeeper-batsman and some even succeeded in hitting the shot perfectly.

Before the shot became famous because of the legendary wicketkeeper-batsman, there was another former India skipper, Mohammad Azharuddin, who had a knack for pulverising the opposition bowlers with the helicopter.

Azharuddin, who himself was a great batsman, in a contest against South Africa had once smashed five consecutive fours to Proteas all-rounder Lance Klusener. Azharuddin’s carnage against Klusener also saw him play the helicopter shot.

Azharuddin, who is regarded as one of India’s most prolific captains, made his international debut in an ODI against England in 1985 and has led the country in 221 matches across formats.

Azharuddin has 99 Test and 334 ODI caps under his name and has amassed over 15,000 runs in both the formats combined, which include 29 hundreds and 79 fifties.

IPL 2021: Sunil Gavaskar Praises Rishabh Pant For His Captaincy Skill

Sunil Gavaskar is impressed with Rishabh Pant's captaincy in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.

Sunil Gavaskar praises Rishabh Pant for his impressive captaincy work in IPL 2021. Gavaskar said the Delhi Capitals captain showed a spark of what can turn into a roaring fire as far as captaincy is concerned.

Sunil Gavaskar says that Rishabh Pant was tactically good and he managed to combine it with his street-smart approach to impress on his debut as captain in the IPL. Pant was appointed as captain of Delhi Capitals after Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of IPL 2021 with a shoulder injury.

    Sunil Gavaskar Praises Rishabh Pant

Pant was in prime form with the bat for India since the start of the Australia tour and he was rewarded for the resurgence with Delhi captaincy.

Pant impressed right from the word go and helped Delhi finish on top of the IPL 2021 points table at the halfway mark before the tournament was suspended due to positive Covid-19 cases in bio-bubbles of multiple franchises.

Delhi Capitals appoints Rishabh Pant as their skipper for IPL 2021

“The standout team Delhi Capitals under young Rishabh Pant. By the sixth game, one could see that he was getting tired of being asked about being captain. Every presenter at the post-game ceremony had the same question to him. What he showed was a spark that can become a roaring fire if allowed to burn naturally. Yes, he will make mistakes; which captain doesn’t?” Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportstar.

“But like he showed in the few games in the IPL that he is clever enough to learn and his usual street-smart savvy meant he was on top of most situations and was finding his own method to get out of sticky ones. He is one for the future, no doubt about it. That’s because he has shown that talent can meet opportunity only when it walks hand in hand with temperament,” he added.

Pant made a decent contribution with the bat in the IPL 2021. He scored 213 runs in eight innings, averaging 35.50 and had a strike rate of 131.48.

Parents of Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal have tested positive for COVID19. Father KK Chahal and Mother Sunita Devi were tested positive for the deadly coronavirus on 13 May 2021.

Yuzvendra Chahal Parents Tested COVID19 Positive

“Yuzvendra Chahal’s mother and father have tested positive for COVID19. Wishing them a speedy recovery.”

Chahal’s father was an Advocate while his mother remains as the housewife. Till the source of COVID19 spread to the family has not yet revealed. Yuzvendra Chahal got engaged to Dhanashree Verma, a YouTuber, choreographer, and dentist on 8 August 2020 and married her on 22 December 2020 in Gurgaon in a private ceremony.

Yuzvendra Chahal stats starts to fall

With over 150 wickets for the national team in 102 matches, the 30-year-old has turned out to be a genuine wicket-taker for his side. He took the most wickets (23) in T20Is in 2017 by any bowler.

For his performances in 2015 and 2016, he was named in the Cricinfo IPL XI for the season. He was also named in the Cricbuzz XI for 2016 and 2017.

However, of late, he has looked a tad out of sorts. In the T20I series against England earlier this year, he got three wickets but gave over 40 runs in two out of three games.

He did not feature in any of the three ODIs. Chahal also struggled in the IPL 2021 season, picking only 4 wickets in 8 games for RCB before the IPL 2021 was suspended.

Former India cricketer Laxman Sivaramakrishnan believes that Kuldeep and Chahal may have been found out.

“Nothing really pained me more than witnessing the fall of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. The duo was very successful in the early part of their career. Batsmen were not aware of what they were bowling but now they have been found out,” Laxman Sivaramakrishnan wrote in a column on cricket.com.

“I Miss Guidance of MS Dhoni”, Says Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep Yadav accepts that missing MS Dhoni behind the stumph plays a crucial role in his career downgrade. Yadav didn’t feature in a single game for KKR in IPL 2021 despite being retained.

The chinaman spinner admitted being shocked on not getting a spot in the playing XI even in the Chennai leg.

Kuldeep Yadav on missing MS Dhoni

In a recent interview, Kuldeep admitted that he misses the guidance of former India skipper MS Dhoni. The former wicketkeeper-batsman was an integral reason behind the success of ‘Kul-Cha’.

Dhoni was often seen suggesting bowling plans to the pair from behind the stumps, and he would often back them when chips were down.

“Sometimes I miss that guidance because he (Mahi) has great experience. He used to guide us behind the wicket, kept screaming! We miss his experience,” Kuldeep said in an interview with IE.

”Rishabh is there now, the more he plays, the more input he will give in the future. I always felt every bowler needs a partner who can respond from the other end,” Kuldeep added.

Watch Dhoni’s guidance to Kuldeep and Chahal

Kuldeep Yadav’s career has been on a free fall since the 2019 IPL and the left-arm leg-spinner, who was hailed by head coach Ravi Shastri as India’s first-choice overseas spinner in early 2019, doesn’t even warrant a permanent place in the playing 11 anymore.

Not only Kuldeep Yadav but his former partner-in-crime Yuzvendra Chahal has also been under constant decline in the past 12-18 months.

“When Mahi bhai was there, I and Chahal were playing. Ever since Mahi bhai left, Chahal and I haven’t played together. I played only a handful of games after Mahi bhai left,” he further said.

“I must have played ten-odd games. I had even taken a hat-trick. If you look at the performance as a whole, it will look pretty decent but if one breaks it up then my performance sometimes can look not up to the mark,” he said.

Since the last World Cup, Kuldeep Yadav has featured in 12 ODIs in which he has managed 12 wickets at an average of 58.41 and an economy rate of 6.31.

Australian Test skipper Tim Paine felt they fell for distractions created by India during the visitors’ dramatic series triumph in the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Paine felt India were good at sideshows and the Aussies fell for them.

    Tim Paine slams India

Paine’s comments came in connection to the final Test of the 2020/21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Gabba in Brisbane, which Australia lost by three wickets, allowing India to seal the Test series 2-1.

“Part of the challenge of playing against India is they’re very good at niggling you and trying to distract you with stuff that doesn’t really matter and there were times in that series where we fell for that,” Tim Paine said, as quoted by news.com.au.

“The classic example was when they said they weren’t going to the Gabba so we didn’t know where we were going. They’re very good at creating these sideshows and we took our eye off the ball.”

The Aussie captain is referring to the furor that was caused as the visitors refused to leave for Brisbane where the series decider was scheduled to begin. Some of the former Aussie cricketers questioned India’s tactics and said they are chickening out because of the Gabba strip as the venue was a fortress for the home team and no visiting team had won there in 32 years.

The series went down to the wire as India beat Australia in MCG after losing the first Test. Then Rahane-led side enforced a draw against all odds at SCG. With series locked 1-1, both teams headed to Brisbane where some heroics from Mohammed Siraj, Rishabh Pant, Shardul Thakur, and Washington Sundar made sure the tri-color furls at the Gabba.

Virat Kohli‘s men will travel to England in the first week of June and complete the mandatory quarantine period before taking on New Zealand in the World Test Championship final in Southampton from June 18.

Former India opener Aakash Chopra has predicted his India squad for the Sri Lanka tour where they were scheduled to play three ODIs and as many T20Is.

Aakash Chopra India squad for Sri Lanka

In his squad, Chopra has kept Shikhar Dhawan as the captain saying he’s been continuously upgrading his skills and that has been reflecting in the manner in which he’s batting over the past two years.

“Shikhar Dhawan is continuously upgrading his software for the past two years and his batting has been brilliant,” Chopra said on his eponymous YouTube channel. “With him, I am picking his Delhi Capital’ opening partner Prithvi Shaw. The kind of form we have seen from him (in IPL 2021), he should go. I won’t pick Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devdutt Padikkal.”

“If available and fit, Shreyas Iyer should be part of the team. There are talks of him playing county cricket so there’s that. If not, then Padikkal or Ruturaj. Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan even although Mumbai Indians dropped him halfway through IPL but I will keep him,” he added.

Allrounder Hardik Pandya will be Dhawan’s deputy in his squad. “Hardik Pandya will be the vice-captain of this team. Then, Krunal Pandya – he did well against England,” Chopra explained.

    Hardik Pandya
    Hardik Pandya

Among the bowlers, he wants Bhuvneshwar Kumar to team up with Deepak Chahar and the spin department will be led by Yuzvendra Chahal.

“Yuzi Chahal should be in eleven. Deepak Chahar has been absolutely outstanding with the white-ball. If he bowls alongside Bhuvneshwar Kumar, India’s problem of not taking wickets in Powerplay can be addressed. Both are swing bowlers and can take wickets with new ball,” he said.

“Navdeep Saini is also being ignored for both India and RCB. I will keep him. “Again, there’s question mark over T Natarajan’s fitness but if fit, he must go. Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy are my two extra spinners Prasidh Krishna is also in my team,” he added.

    Here’s Chopra’s full squad

Shikhar Dhawan (Captain), Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya (vice-captain), Krunal Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, Deepak Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Navdeep Saini, T Natarajan, Rahul Chahar, Varun Chakravarthy, Sanju Samson, Deepak Hooda, Prasidh Krishna
