Shahid Afridi and Naseem Shah has been ruled out of the remainder of the Pakistan Super League(PSL).

Shahid Afridi, Naseem Shah Ruled out of PSL

Multan Sultans allrounder Shahid Afridi will not get part in the remainder of the PSL after being sidelined with a lower-back injury. While Quetta Gladiators fast-bowler Naseem Shah miss the remainder of the league after he was released following a breach of Covid-19 protocols.

Shah arrived at the tournament hotel in Lahore with a negative Covid-19 test, but from a non-compliant PCR test. As a result, he will not travel to Abu Dhabi with the rest of the Quetta Gladiators contingent, ruling him out of the competition.

Babar Hamid, the director and commercial head of PSL 6, said the decision had been taken with a heavy heart but emphasized that the league would make no compromises on health and safety this time around.

“The PCB doesn’t take any pride in releasing a young fast bowler from its marquee event but if we will ignore this breach, then we will potentially put at risk the entire event,” he said.

“We appreciate Quetta Gladiators for accepting this decision as it confirms we are all aligned to strictly following and implementing the protocols.

“This decision will also send out a loud and clear message to all involved in the remaining matches that the PCB will not compromise on any violations and will expel the player or player support personnel irrespective of his stature and standing in the game if they are found to be flouting the prescribed protocols or regulations.”

Both the Sultans and the Gladiators have plenty of ground to make up when the league resumes, having struggled to race out of the blocks when the league initially launched in February. They have each won just one of the five matches they played, and currently both sit outside the top four.

Islamabad United have also included batsman Umar Amin and West Indian opener Brandon King, while Afghanistan’s Hazratullah Zazai pairs up with Peshawar Zalmi. The league is set to resume on June 5, with the final due to take place on June 20.

Balaji Explains Why Youngsters Wanted To Become Like Bumrah

    0
    laxmipathy balaji

Lakxmipathy Balaji, the former India fast bowler and currently the Bowling Coach of the Chennai Super Kings, in an Exclusive with Cricketnext, spoke about the evolution of fast bowling in India from the time of Kapil Dev to the prevailing era dominated by Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma.

    Balaji Lauds Bumrah

Balaji stated that unlike before, when batsmen like Tendulkar or Kohli were the stars for millions of young aspiring cricketers in India, times had changed and now a large percentage of the youngsters also want to become a Bumrah or a Shami or a Sharma.

“The current Indian pace attack has evolved over a period. There was a role model in Kapil Dev in the 1980s and later we had Manoj Prabhakar and Javagal Srinath. These people set the tone in the 1980s and 1990s as fast bowlers.

    Jasprit Bumrah
    Jasprit Bumrah

Look at the number of players who have made their debuts in the last five or six years. It is large. They have a lot of opportunities across all formats. If you are able to get recognition at the first-class level or the IPL, you are not going to be ignored.

Many missed out in the 1980s and 1990s. In the recent past, the best thing that has happened is the rotation of players. Good talent is hardly missed. The opportunities and talents are justified,” said Balaji.

Balaji added that there was no system of rotation policy earlier and the only way for a fast bowler to replace the other was via injuries. He added that with the advent of T20 cricket and the mushrooming of T20 leagues like the IPL, a lot more avenues were created for the pacers to perform and excel in and thereby get noticed.

“In the previous eras, injury for one gives an opportunity for another. With an exceptional first-class record, you played for India ‘A’. Some have finished as only as India ‘A’ players. You waited and waited for an opportunity till someone got injured.

Today, it is about rotation. You have a wider circle, a lot of players get to experience international cricket. They are also thriving on that. It is about the right talent getting the right opportunity at the right time during the peak of their careers. It is not anymore about getting selected prematurely or after their prime,” stated the CSK bowling coach.

Balaji further stated that a large talent pool of fast bowlers is, in turn, changing the domination of batsmen as role models for budding cricketers in the country. He said that in the past every one either wanted to become a Gavaskar or a Tendulkar or a Kohli but now youngsters also want to be a Bumrah, Shami, Sharma, or Yadav.

    Mohammed Shami
    Mohammed Shami

“This is a major transformation of the current crop of fast bowlers in India. Earlier, nine out of 10 youngsters wanted to become a Virat Kohli or a Sachin Tendulkar, or an MS Dhoni. Nowadays, they want to be like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd Shami, or Zaheer Khan.”

Balaji then highlighted the pedigree in India’s fast bowling unit and revealed what each bowler brought to the table.

“The importance of fast bowling is defined with Bumrah’s pace, Shami’s modern-day skill sets, Ishant Sharma’s huge experience. T Natarajan, in recent times, has gone from a remote place in Tamil Nadu to playing international cricket, filling in the void of a left-arm seamer. All these are a result of the evolution of fast bowlers and which is why India is able to take 20 wickets in Tests consistently,” added Balaji.

Suryakumar Yadav starts his T20I debut with a six

Suryakumar Yadav registers his name in international cricket format by hitting an impressive six of the very first ball he faced in his debut match.

He made his debut in the 2nd T20I against England but he did not get to bat. Suryakumar missed the 3rd T20I, but then returned in the 4th match to smash 51 runs off 37 balls.

SKY became the first Indian and third overall cricketer to smash the first ball in T20 international for a six. Suryakumar hooked pacer Jofra Archer for a six after coming on to bat at number three.

Suryakumar Yadav Opens on Hitting First ball six

Speaking in a recent video uploaded on Mumbai Indians’ Youtube channel, Suryakumar Yadav said revealed how excited was he to go and bat for the first time in an Indian jersey.

“If you must have seen, I was very excited at that time. Obviously, I wasn’t happy because Rohit Sharma had just got out. But when it was going in, I was so excited, I ran in to bat. I had waited for a long time (for this opportunity),” he said.

“Sitting in the dressing room, I had thoughts like – when will the match start? When will my turn come to bat? When I wore my pads and came out to sit in the dugout, I was a little nervous. It is important to be nervous. If you are not nervous, how will you go in and perform?” Suryakumar Yadav added.

“As I was running in to bat, everything started running in my mind. I was thinking what do I do when I bat at number three for other teams, not only for Mumbai Indians but even for my state back home. I got an answer when I was taking my guard, that I shouldn’t do anything different. I just need to keep playing as I have done throughout my career. Be yourself. I have reached this point by doing the same things,” he further said.

The batsman recalled the six he hit off England pacer Jofra Archer on the first ball itself that showcased his intentions.

Former India opener Wasim Jaffer has applied for the role of Mumbai head coach along with domestic stalwart Amol Mazumdar and former leg-spinner Sairaj Bahutule.

Wasim Jaffer Applied for Mumbai Head Coach

The post was vacated by Ramesh Powar who was appointed as the head coach of the senior national women’s team earlier this month.

A total of 9 candidates applied for the Mumbai head coach post before the May 24 deadline. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) had last week sought applications with eligibility criteria of minimum 50 first-class matches after Powar had to leave role.

Former India pacer Balwinder Singh Sandhu, a member of the 1983 World Cup Winning India team, has also applied for the post.

It is understood that among others who have applied are former keeper-batsman Sulkashan Kulkarni, pacer Pradeep Sunderram, Nandan Phadnis, Umesh Patwal and Vinod Raghvan.

Jaffer is the most experienced among the candidates with 31 Tests. He had worked with the Punjab Kings side in IPL 2021.

Muzumdar, a former Mumbai captain under whom the team won the coveted Ranji Trophy, has been a batting coach with the NCA, IPL team Rajasthan Royals, and also a consultant when South African played against India in 2019.

Bahutule, who played two Tests and eight ODIs for India, is a domestic stalwart, having played 188 first-class games, in which he picked staggering 630 wickets. He has coached Vidarbha, Kerala, Bengal and has been Gujarat’s coach for the past two seasons.

Last season, Mumbai had initially appointed Amit Pagnis as the coach for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, but after its disastrous show, Pagnis then stepped down.

MCA turned to Powar before the Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign and the former off-spinner delivered instantly, helping the team win the tournament earlier this year.

Suryakumar Yadav Recalls Face-off Incident with Kohli in IPL 2020

Suryakumar Yadav Sledging With Virat Kohli in IPL 2020

India batsman Suryakumar Yadav recalled his face-off with India captain Virat Kohli during an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 game between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore, saying he was happy that the RCB skipper sledged him.

Kohli Suryakumar Yadav Clash in IPL 2020

Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli were involved in a staring contest during a crunch match in Abu Dhabi last year. It all started when Kohli was trying to unsettle Suryakumar who was taking the attack to RCB bowlers in MI’s chase of 165.

The incident came days after Suryakumar missed a berth in the India squad for the Australia tour last year.

The MI batsman looked like a man on a mission as he batted with a steely resolve. Despite losing early wickets, MI managed to seal a 5-wicket win. Suryakumar remained unbeaten and finished the chase on 79 off 43 balls with 3 sixes and 10 boundaries.

    Suryakumar Yadav

Kohli’s efforts had gone in vain as Suryakumar maintained his composure and did the job for Mumbai Indians.

“It’s not just me, he goes hard at any batsman batting against him. I was happy that he sledged me. It means even Kohli knew that if I bat on, we will win the match and if they got my wicket, then maybe they could slow us down and create a chance to win,” Suryakumar said during an Instagram live session with Mumbai Indians.

“I am a cool and calm customer on the pitch, so I don’t get into these rivalries. But there was that moment in Abu Dhabi, so I guess that can go down as one,” he added.

Notably, Suryakumar told Sports Tak earlier this year that the two-player left the incident on the field and greeted each other when they met after the match in Abu Dhabi.

“After the match, he was just normal. He said, ‘well played’ to everybody afterward. It was just in that moment (his staring incident with Virat Kohli). He also knew at that situation who was the key player in the opposition,” Suryakumar had said.

The Mumbai Indians batsman made his India debut earlier this year in the T20I series against England. Suryakumar made a fine early impression at the international level as he hit a fifty in his maiden batting innings at the highest level.

He looked at ease against the best in the business, hitting Jofra Archer for a six in the very first ball of his international cricket career.

Kagiso Rabada Top 5 Best Performance in International Matches

    Kagiso Rabada

Kagiso Rabada is one of the exciting talents that South Africa has given to the cricket fraternity who proves his worth with his impressive performance on many occasions.

    Best Performance of Kagiso Rabada

His ability to nail Yorkers has made him captain’s favorite choice across all formats. He generally bowls in a 140-150kph range which makes him one of the best pacers in the modern era of cricket.

Capable of destroying the batting line-up of various teams, Rabada made his T20I debut against Australia in November 2014 and in early 2015 he debuted in longer formats.

In his international career, Rabada has claimed 202 wickets in Tests, 119 wickets in ODIs, and 31 in T20I. These figures will only get better in the coming years. Meanwhile, let’s take a look at some of his outstanding performances.

    6/16 Vs Bangladesh in Dhaka

In 2015, when South Africa faced Bangladesh, a hurricane arose and left the Bangladeshi batsmen clueless in the first ODI. With his top-class fast bowling, Rabada made his international debut with a 6-wicket haul, including a hat-trick. The home-side toppled for 164-runs and the Proteas registered an 8-wicket victory.

    4/41 Vs India in Mumbai

While batting first in the 5th ODI, South Africa put up a total of 438 runs and the pitch looked ideal for batting.

But the tables turned when the host came in to play. Rabada took 4 wickets, including the crucial wickets of Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina. Men in Blue got bundled out for 224 and lost the match by over 200-runs.

    7/112 & 6/32 Vs England

This is another spell by the South African speedster which brought him praises. It was Rabada who guided the home side to victory in the fourth Test of England’s 2016 tour of South Africa.

The Centurion field appeared to be batting paradise when the hosts were in with the bat as they had set up a target of 475-runs. But once again Rabada was back in attack. The right-arm bowler, with his pace attack, scalped 7 wickets in the second innings and 6 more wickets in the last inning.

5/96 & 6/54 Vs Australia in Port Elizabeth

Owing to two brilliant performances by the young pacer, South Africa who were on backfoot after losing the first match were able to settle scores with Australia. In the first inning, Rabada took a 5-wicket haul and a 6-wicket haul in the third inning.

5/ 92 Vs Australia in Perth

Rabada knocked down the home side in the first test of South Africa’s 2016-17 tour to Australia. The right-arm bowler took a fifer and gave no room to the Aussie batsmen to make a comeback. Riding on his back, South Africa put up a 177-run victory.

BCB President Nazmul Hasan Vowed to Strengthen COVID19 Biobubble

    Bangladesh Cricket Board

Bangladesh Cricket Board(BCB) president Nazmul Hasan has vowed to strengthen the bio-bubble after a COVID-19 alarm in the Bangladesh-Sri Lanka series.

BCB Promises to Strengthen COVID-19 Biobubble

Billows of vulnerability drifted over the arrangement after Sri Lankan players Isuru Udana and Shiran Fernando, bowling coach Chaminda Vaas and two of Bangladesh’s calculated staff tested positive for Covid. However, Vaas and Udana went on to test negative.

In any case, BCB stays sure of the series will go on as scheduled. The initial ODI match went on after players other than Fernando tried negative after a test on Saturday.

“It can happen at times someone getting positive, but there is a protocol in place what we need to do and how many times we need to do the test to make sure that he is negative,” said Nazmul Hasan as quoted by Cricbuzz.

“We are following the protocol, and we feel nothing serious happened that we need to panic. But definitely, we will increase our vigilance. Fernando recovered from COVID very recently, the PCR may have detected the dead RNA from the virus, many individuals have it on them up to 28 days,” he said.

Repeating the assumptions of Bangladesh opposition, Sri Lanka’s group chief Manuja Kariyapperuma communicated his satisfaction with the game plans made by BCB. The report cited him as saying:

“Yes, we had two players, and one support staff member that tested positive, but two of them were declared negative after the second test, so these things happen. There is a thing you know, false-positive reports, and I think it might have been that. The facilities offered to us are good, that is more than adequate, and we made use of the facilities that were afforded to us and looking forward to a very good series”.

There has been a great deal of talk worldwide about the players’ psychological wellness due to the bio-bubble. Nazmul Hasan likewise recognized something very similar and expressed it was the same for their national team because of consistent cricket.

“I don’t know about the others, but it’s very difficult for us. There are two reasons, as each country has its own culture. About us, we are used to working closely with the players. The second thing is the way the players need to practice before going on a tour, this is not prepared at all” – he said.

“If we consider each match, we went to New Zealand, followed by playing Test matches at home, and played ODIs and T20Is in New Zealand. Then on coming back, completing the quarantine process, we went to Sri Lanka to play Test matches, and now we are taking on Sri Lanka” – he added.

Bangladesh won the initial ODI against Sri Lanka in Dhaka by 33 runs. The second of the three-ODI arrangement will be played on Tuesday.

Jamaica seamer Marquino Mindley, who had been picked in West Indies’ 30-man squad for the high-performance training camp in St Lucia, ahead of the home Test series against South Africa, has tested positive for Covid19.

     Marquino Mindley Tests COVID19 Positive

The 26-year-old Jamaican will isolate himself in his hotel room. Cricket West Indies’ (CWI) medical team will keep track of him and he will be allowed to rejoin until he returns back-to-back negative results.

The rest of the squad members, including players and coaches, returned negative results following tests and re-tests.

All the other members of the camp, including the coaches, were re-tested and returned negative tests, with training being called off for the weekend.

The three-week long camp had gotten underway on May 16 in a bio-secure environment and will now resume on May 24, with the players set to train in smaller groups at the Daren Sammy Stadium in St Lucia.

“CWI continues to work with all the regional governments and CARPHA (Caribbean Public Health Agency) to encourage and assist all squad members to get vaccinated, the board said in a statement.

“To date, 43 members of West Indies Men’s playing and coaching staff have received vaccination doses.”

Mindley, who made his first-class debut in 2014, has played 35 games matches so far, taking 84 wickets to add to scoring 394 runs.

More recently in the 2019-20 first-class season, he was the highest wicket-taker for Jamaica, with 24 strikes in six games at an average of 22.66.

The three-week long camp got underway on May 16. South Africa tour West Indies for two Test matches and five T20 Internationals. The Test series begins on June 10 and while the last T20I will be played on July 23.

Both the Test matches will be played in St Lucia while the T20 Internationals will be played in Grenada.

BAN vs SL: Nazmul Hassan Slams Bangladesh After 1st ODI Loss

BCB president Nazmul Hassan slams Bangladesh
BCB president Nazmul Hassan slams Bangladesh

Nazmul Hassan, the BCB president, has called into question Bangladesh shot selection in the first ODI against Sri Lanka, their preparation ahead of this series, and the merit of using Liton Das as an opener in this format.

    Nazmul Hassan Slams Bangladesh

Hassan made his comments at a press briefing during the innings break after Bangladesh had made 257 for 6 on a tricky surface in Dhaka, an unusually prompt response from the board chief, who usually waits till the end of a match before offering his reactions.

“The BCB is trying to find out what’s happening, and why it is happening,” Hassan said.

“Winning and losing today is not important. How many good balls or brilliant fielding got us out? Was our shot selection right? There’s no point bringing a good coach if this is their shot selection. We will talk about the coach later. First, we have to sit with the players to find out their mentality. Some of the outs [dismissals] were very ugly. There was no need to play those shots in that situation.”

Hassan acknowledged that some of the Bangladesh batters were going through a lean patch, and said that “in his opinion” Das, who bats at No. 7 in Tests, would be better suited down the order in ODIs as well.

Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI
Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI

Das and Mohammad Mithun both fell for ducks, with Das flaying outside off stump and Mithun trapped lbw while playing a paddle sweep.

“Liton Das, Soumya [Sarkar] and [Mohammad] Mithun are capable players. People go through bad times. We will have to talk to the players and coaches. I can’t just take a sweeping decision from the top. It will become negative.

“[Liton] can open in T20s, but my personal opinion is that he is better at No. 5 or 6. We have to sit with them. I don’t want to force anything on them. I don’t do that anymore. I think we will have a solution.”

While Nazmul Hassan said Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo would have his contract renewed this year, he stressed on the need to ask questions and “find out the problem”.

“If we don’t renew his contract, we would be needing someone as a back-up. We don’t have any such thoughts in this Covid situation with a World Cup coming up. This is the reality.

“We haven’t had the chance to test them. If we ask him [Domingo] why they batted badly, he will point towards their shot-selection. What will be my reply? We first have to find out the problem. I can’t even sit with the players due to Covid. They don’t even allow me into the bio-bubble. What can I do?”

While Bangladesh could theoretically top the World Cup Super League table if they win this series, their form across all formats has been erratic. The team has lost nine out of the last ten international matches.

In fact, since the 2019 World Cup, Bangladesh have won only one international game against a higher-ranked side – the first T20I versus India in Delhi in November 2019.

Besides a 3-0 ODI win against the West Indies at the start of the year, Bangladesh have lost every other series they have played in 2021, including six consecutive defeats in New Zealand across formats.

Hassan was displeased with Bangladesh’s preparation ahead of the Sri Lanka series.

“Is this any type of preparation? We played ODIs and T20s in New Zealand after playing Tests. Then we played Tests in Sri Lanka. We are not having our usual procedure of preparation.

“How much did they practice after coming back [from Sri Lanka]? They couldn’t practice one day due to rain. Then another day was missing due to permission.

The bond of a training camp, where everyone is around, is missing. It is a difficult environment for us – continuously playing and being in repeated quarantines.

“We are going to Zimbabwe, and then Australia, New Zealand, and England are coming here. We have to abide by Covid protocols in every series. It is a problem for everyone but there are some countries who are continuously playing.”

IPL 2021: Phase 2 Confirmed to Play in UAE During September – October

    0
Rahane as Vice captain for WI tests

As per a report, the BCCI has chalked out a plan to conduct the IPL 2021 Phase 2 that will be conducted in the UAE in a one-month window between September 15 and October 15.

    IPL 2021 Phase 2 Confirmed

BCCI postponed the 14th edition of IPL owing to the spike in COVID19 positive cases inside the biosecure bubble.

The BCCI, which has called for a Special General Meeting (SGM) on May 29, is likely to announce the plans on that day. The dilemma has been over two factors — first the ICC T20 World Cup and the second is India’s 5-match Test series against England.

India’s five-Test series against England is scheduled to begin on August 4. Sources pointed out that there was a nine-day gap between the second Test and the third Test.

“If that gap can be reduced to four, it will allow BCCI five extra days to make use of. If we can have those extra days eked out from the India-England schedule, then it adds to the window. If not, then within these 30 days, a full day will have to be set aside for the Indian team and English cricketers to travel from the UK to the UAE, five days will have to be set aside for the knockouts later,” a source was quoted saying by the TOI.

Now according to the latest plans of the BCCI, the remaining part of the 14th season of the IPL is most likely to be played in September-October before the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

IPL 2021 Phase 2 window confirmed: “That will leave the BCCI with 24 days to conclude 27 matches. This window has four weekends available, which means a total of eight Saturdays and Sundays for doubleheaders that can accommodate 16 matches. That will leave the BCCI with 11 matches to be held in 19 days. That’s a week extra,” the source added.

“The IPL will, in fact, be the perfect platform to warm up for the ICC event. The ICC is watching this space with keen interest and will not interfere with the logistics as long as it does not conflict with the World Cup window,” the source said.

UAE likely to host the remainder of IPL 2021

According to reports, BCCI would be conducting the remaining games in UAE rather than the UK for various reasons.

One of the main reasons being UK is likely to witness monsoon during the months of September and October. On the other hand, the weather in UAE is hot in September but begins to cool down by the end of the month.

BCCI can avoid numerous logistical problems as they had successfully hosted the tournament last year as well in UAE. Moreover, a central bio-secure bubble can be constructed in the UAE, and hotels are already aware of the protocols.

Reportedly, IPL franchises to are in favor of shifting the IPL to UAE.

Ryan Burl Got Sponsor from PUMA

Zimbabwe cricketer Ryan Burl had shared an emotional post for sponsorship. He posted a pic of his torn shoe along with a glue bottle. He indicates that they are in a position of repairing their shoes once for every series they play.

“Any chance we can get a sponsor so we don’t have to glue our shoes back after every series @newbalance @NewBalance_SA @NBCricket @ICAssociation.”

    PUMA Comes forward to Help

The tweet went viral and the fans began urging for a sponsor.

“Time to put the glue away, I got you covered,” Puma Cricket had responded to Burl’s tweet after the Zimbabwe cricketer sought help from household sporting brands.

    Harbhajan Singh Lauds PUMA

Indian cricketer and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) superstar Harbhajan Singh lauded the sports gear brand for their incredible gesture.

Harbhajan, who enjoys a massive fan following across all social media platforms took to Twitter and praised Puma Cricket for offering a helping hand to Zimbabwe international.

“Always there for the players @pumacricket well done,” Harbhajan said in his tweet. Harbhajan’s response has come after Puma Cricket publicly announced to help Zimbabwe’s Burl.

The 27-year-old Burl has played 2 Tests, 18 ODIs, and 25 T20Is since making his international debut in 2017. A middle-order batter, so far, he has scored a combined 660 runs across formats.

Recently, Zimbabwe suffered a whitewash at home to Pakistan in a two-match Test series. However, in the shortest format of the game, they managed to defend 119 by bowling out Pakistan for 99 inside 20 overs. Zimbabwe eventually lost the three-match Twenty20 International series 2-1.

In July 2019, the International Cricket Council had suspended Zimbabwe Cricket due to political interference in their functioning. This decision saw the funding from ICC to Zimbabwe Cricket being frozen. The suspension was later lifted in October 2019.

Ireland Pacer Boyd Rankin retires from international cricket

England and Ireland pacer Boyd Rankin, the only cricketer to have played for two countries in all three formats, has announced his retirement from international cricket.

    Boyd Rankin Announces Retirement

Rankin made his Ireland debut in 2003 and played last for the country in a T20 against Afghanistan in Greater Noida in 2020.

“To retire from international cricket is always a tough call, but I feel now is the right time to step away,” he said in a statement.

“I have put my heart and soul into playing cricket professionally since 2003 and have loved every minute of it. “I never dreamt I would play for Ireland as much as I did and to travel the world playing in numerous World Cups and to pull on the Irish jersey is something I will never forget.”

Rankin is among the 15 players who have played Test cricket for two countries.

“To have also a long career in county cricket especially during my 11-year stint with Warwickshire where we won the County Championship, 50-over competition twice, and the T20 Blast in 2014 was very special and something I am very grateful for,” he said.

“I always strived to be the best player I could be and to play at the highest level possible, so to make my Test debut for England during a time when Ireland wasn’t a Test-playing nation was a very proud moment.

I will miss all the guys I played alongside the most and enjoying the wins we had along the way,” he added.

The 36-year-old has also played an Ashes Test for England on the 2013-14 tour besides seven ODIs and two T20s. He went back to play for Ireland after they got the Test status in 2017. In all, he played three Tests, 75 ODIs, and 50 T20s.
