The World Cricket Association (WCA) officials have urged the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Group to resolve the outstanding payments of cricketers who entered the competition in the last edition.

The global players’ body in cricket has represented the players across the majority of top cricket-playing countries through their domestic players’ association and has already sent a letter to the board regarding foreign players’ non-payment issues.

“A significant number of late and non-payment issues have been reported to us with respect to the last BPL event, and most of them remain outstanding.”

“This is a broader ongoing issue across our whole sport and it is disappointing these issues continue to be reported,” said WCA chief executive Tom Moffat.

“We continue to urge the game’s leadership to step in and ensure they are resolved and the players are paid what they are owed urgently,” he added.

15+ cricketers has complained about the pending payments in the last BPL which is approximately USD 250,000 while a franchise, who played the last edition but is not participating in this edition owes around USD 100000.

Comilla Victorians, Chattogram Challengers and Durdanto Dhaka participated in the last edition but are not taking in the upcoming season that will mark the end of the present cycle.

Nazmul Abedin, BPL governing council member secretary said that they are unaware about foregin players’ non payment issues and are working to resolve it.

“That issue has been addressed and the process has started (as far as clearing them is concerned),” said Nazmul.

“It is handled by the CEO and he can give you the correct answer but that issue (letter from World Cricketers Association’s concern) has been addressed and work is in place to solve it.”

Meanwhile Debabrata Paul, the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh said that 12 out of 15 players payments has been cleared by the franchises.

“There are three cricketers from three franchises that still did not get their payment but we are hoping they will also get back their payment soon,” said Paul.

However, the payment issues would affect the foreign players getting involved the league. With the next edition BPL is scheduled to start December 30 with the final being scheduled to play on February 07.

Players payment issues has been a issues since Nazmul Hasan led regimes and it remains to seen how it works under newly appointed BCB President. The upcoming edition will mark the first BPL under Faruque Ahmed leadership.
