The fast bowler Xavier Bartlett returns to action for the first time after suffering a side strain in September and will be part of Australia’s bowling unit for Pakistan T20Is.
The return of Bartlett will increase the bowling depth with a gruelling Border Gavaskar Trophy set to test the fitness of the cricketer. Bartlett has not played in domestic cricket so far in the season and has recently returned to local cricket in Brisbane.
Xavier Bartlett was the leading wicket-taker in last season’s BBL and helped Brisbane to win the title. He also claimed four-wicket hauls in the first two ODIs against West Indies and picked 6 wickets from four tours at an average of 17.66.
He was added to Australia’s squad to build depth after Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc started their preparations for the five-match test series against India.
Spencer Johnson, Lance Morris, Sean Abbott and Marcus Stoinis has played in the third ODI with Bartlett watching from the sidelines after coming into Australia’s ODI squad in a non playing role for the second match.
Australia suffered a home ODI defeat after 2123 days against Pakistan after India beat them in 2019 last time. He spoke about Pakistan’s brillance with the ball and hasn’t been lost on the home side.
“They’ve been amazing,” said Xavier Bartlett. “The last two games they’ve only used four bowlers. (They’re bowling) 140 from both ends for the whole game. It’s been pretty exciting to watch.
“They bowled really great lengths and they were just really attacking … they might go for a few more runs at times but the lengths they’ve bowled have been really good and (I’ll) hopefully look to emulate that. We’ll take a leaf out of their book for this series.”
If he is set to play in the series opener, it will be his first international match in front of his home crowd. He said that he will share the new ball with Brisbane Heat teammate Spencer Johnson.
The duo were unstoppable in the Big Bash League last season where Brisbane Heat won the title.
“I love bowling with Spencer,” Bartlett said. “He’s someone who bowls left arm first and foremost, but bowls 150 (kmph), swings it, he’s pretty much the perfect package.
“Hopefully he can complement me at the other end and really looking forward to getting out there again with him,” he concluded. The first match of the Pakistan T20I will be played on November 14 at The Gabba.

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami is set to return to action after he was named in Bengal’s squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh.
Shami has received the necessary clearance from the National Cricket Academy and will be joining the Bengal squad on November 12.
“In a major boost to Indian cricket and the Bengal Ranji Trophy team, star pacer Mohammed Shami will make a comeback into competitive cricket for Bengal against Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group C match in Indore starting on Wednesday,” said Naresh Ojha, honorary secretary of Cricket Association of Bengal in a statement.
“Shami, who has been out of competitive action since India’s ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad last November, will spearhead the Bengal pace bowling attack against Madhya Pradesh.”
The 34 year old suffered an ankle injury in the ODI World Cup 2023, which caused him many months in his cricketing career. He was key player for India in the ODI World Cup 2023 taking 24 wickets in seven games with an average of 10.70 and a strike rate of 10.20.
Lala (Shami) was hoping to to be named in the squad for Border Gavaskar Trophy after playing one or two Ranji Trophy games to prove his fitness. Shami was expected to make a comeback before New Zealand tests but his swollen knee has extended his rehabilitation process.
If Mohammed Shami proves his fitness in the upcoming four day game, there is a major possibility of him being added to India’s squad which features fast bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep.
The Pacer has been on track for a return during Bangladesh series at home in September, and was in line to be considered for the season opening Duleep Trophy in September, until he suffered a swollen knee that put him back little bit in his recovery.
Bengal will be facing Madhya Pradesh in Ranji Trophy stages on November 13 at Holkar Stadium.

The former Afghanistan skipper Mohammad Nabi has revealed his desire to play in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy which is scheduled to take place next year in Pakistan.
The 39-year-old played a major part in ensuring a 2-1 series win for the side in Afghanistan vs Bangladesh in Sharjah. This was Afghanistan’s third consecutive series victory following successes over Ireland and South Africa earlier this year.
With Mohammad Nabi entering the final stages of his international career, the all-rounder is eyeing next year’s Champions Trophy event as his final chance to win an ICC trophy.
“In my mind from the last World Cup, I thought of retiring but if I can play one Champions Trophy it will be great for me. Just small contributions from my side to the youngsters and my insight to them will be more useful,” said Nabi.
Mohammad Nabi has scored 135 runs and picked two wicket across the series. Notably his 34* at the end helped the side to chase the target of 244 with just 10 deliveries remaining at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐌𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒! 🙌@AzmatOmarzay finishes the match and the series with a big blow down the ground! 👏🤩
Azmatullah Omarzai was named as the player of the Match as he picked four wickets and scored an unbeated 70* runs along Nabi at the end of the chase, while Gurbaz smashed his 8th ODI century at the top of the batting order.
This was Gurbaz’s third ODI century of the year and made a move ahead on the list of most ODI hundreds of any player from Afghanistan.
Ahead of the Champions Trophy next month, Afghanistan will travel to Zimbabwe to play a multi format tour that includes three T20Is, three ODIs in Harare Sports Club while the two Test matches will be played in Queen Sports Club Cricket.
The Kiwis have suffered a major setback ahead of the ODI series in the New Zealand tour of Sri Lanka 2024 as pacer Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out due to a calf injury.
Bowling a sensational spell and picking a hattrick dismissing Kusal Perera, Kamindu Mendis and Charith Asalanka during the second T20I against Sri Lanka on November 10, Lockie Ferguson has been named as the Player of the Match.
Ferguson became the sixth New Zealander to take a Twenty20 international hat-trick during his second over in Sunday’s series-levelling win in Dambulla.
The Kiwis’ head coach Gary Stead admitted the void that Ferguson’s absence will leave as he said that Ferguson is an asset to th side and adds more value with his leadership abilities.
Squad News | Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka with a calf injury and will be replaced by Adam Milne. #SLvNZ#CricketNationhttps://t.co/tpPXotFCK5
“We’re gutted for Lockie. He showed in the space of just two overs what an asset he is with the ball, and he’s also brought a lot of leadership to this group, so he’ll be a big miss heading into an important ODI series for us,” said Gary Stead.
Speaking about Ferguson’s injury, Stead said, “To be ruled out so early in a tour is always tough to take, but we’re hopeful his recovery will be short, and he’ll be back out on the field in no time,” he added.
Ferguson will be returning home to assess the extent of his injury and the time he needs for his recovery. Meanwhile Adam Milne has been added to the New Zealand squad as a replacement for Lockie Ferguson.
“Adam is a like-for-like replacement who brings genuine pace and plenty of international experience, so we’re looking forward to welcoming him into the group,” said Gary Stead.
After the T20I series tied 1-1, the visitors will be looking for a series win as the first ODI match starts on November 13 at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. The second and third ODI will be played in Pallekele on November 17 and 19 respectively.

DC have retained 14 players ahead of the WPL 2025 Auction. Following are the list of players retained by DC ahead of the WPL 2025 auction.
Former Australian captain Tim Paine said that he was impressed by Indian wk-batter Dhruv Jurel’s batting during the AUS A vs IND A tests ahead of the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
Jurel played in the second test and scored a brilliant 80 and 68 runs at MCG. Jurel’s impressive performance in the second unofficial test match between Australia A and India A has caught the attention of the former Australian cricketer Tim Paine.
Notably, he praised young cricketers ability to handle the pace and bounce that Australian pitches offered. Paine assured that under challenging conditions could be a suprise package in the highly anticipated Test series against Australia.
“There’s a guy who has wicket-kept in a few Test matches for India. He averages 63 across the three Tests he’s played, and his name is Dhruv Jurel.”
“Watching him bat, it was evident he has the temperament and skill for the longer format. Even though he’s primarily a wicketkeeper, I’d be surprised if he doesn’t feature in the series in some capacity,” said Tim Paine.
Jurel has already made three test appearances against England earlier this year and scored 46, 90, 39 (not out) and 15, averaging 63 with the bat.
His technique facing the Australian bowling lineup on a notoriously bounce surface, impressed the former Aussie skipper who also coached Australia A in the match.
“He’s 23, and he looked a class above all his teammates on this tour,” Paine noted. “A lot of players from the subcontinent find it difficult to adjust to our conditions, but Jurel looked right at home. He’s someone who handled the pace and bounce extremely well, which is unusual for an Indian batter at the MCG.”
Paine’s appraisal comes as India gears up to face Australia in a five match test series. Though Rishabh Pant will be considered for wicketkeeping options, Paine believes, Jurel’s potential could get him a role as specialist batter in the series.
Paine added, “Keep an eye out for him this summer. I think he’s going to impress a lot of Australian fans. It’s going to be another step up against the big three, but he looks like he has the game to play Test cricket.”
The five-match test series will kickstart on November 22 while the second test will be played on a day-night format under the stadium lights starting on December 06.
The third test will be played in the Gabba which will be held between December 14-18. The fourth test will be played between December 26-30 at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The fifth and final test at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3-7 will give a promising dramatic conclusion for the exciting contest.
With a highly anticipated Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 approaching, the all-rounder Nathan McSweeney has opened up on his preparations against Jasprit Bumrah in the five-match test series.
The uncapped batter Nathan McSweeney has been included in the Australia squad for the first test opener in Perth and looks almost certain to partner Usman Khawaja at the Aussies batting order for the crucial WTC contest.
McSweeney was part of Australia A, which played against India A at the MCG last week. The 25-year-old faces a different proposition in Perth when he will face the likes of star quick Jasprit Bumrah and Siraj.
“I’ll definitely dive a lot deeper into it when I get to Perth, but I can’t help myself. I’ve looked at a few clips of what they’re bowling attack stacks up like.”
“I’m just trying to visualise how I’m going to go about it. Facing a new bowler can be a slight challenge to just pick up their action,” said McSweeney.
“I’ve got a whole week before I head off to Perth so I can get mentally ready and I guess it starts now in preparation to hopefully start really well. But there’s probably not ,” the 25-year-old added.
The Australia selectors has brought in McSweeney due to his consistent performances in domestic cricket, particularly his runs for Queensland and Australia.
The five match test series will be a crucial for both the sides to secure their spot in the WTC finals next year.
The Brazilian national team has always been a powerhouse in world football. With a rich history of five World Cup victories, the South American nation is seen as one of the greatest nations to ever play the sport.
However, their recent struggles in World Cup qualifiers have raised serious concerns. One of the country’s brightest young players, Manchester City’s midfielder Savinho, has openly shared his fears about Brazil’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
The fear of potential humiliation looms large over the team as they battle to secure a place in the prestigious mundial come 2026.
Manchester City fans will hope that they carry the winning momentum from last week’s slender win vs Fulham through the international break. The season is getting hotter and more intense. They will need to get Manchester City tickets from an online resale store to be able to support their team even well.
Brazil’s World Cup struggles
Brazil’s current form is alarming. The team has lost four of its last six World Cup qualifiers, an unusual slump for a country that has long been dominant in South America. To put this into perspective, Brazil had only lost four games in their previous 63 qualifying matches before this disastrous run.
As a result, they currently sit in fourth place in the South American qualifying group. This is a dangerous position, as only the top six teams automatically qualify for the 2026 World Cup and they are barely just two points from the seventh-placed team. If Brazil continues to struggle, they might have to fight for a spot in a playoff, something that could be deeply embarrassing for the team.
This slump is Brazil’s worst-ever qualifying campaign, and it couldn’t come at a worse time. The team is preparing for a crucial match against Peru, a game they cannot afford to lose. This match will be vital if Brazil hopes to climb the rankings and secure their place in the tournament.
The team managed to get a slim victory over Chile yesterday and they will need a lot of inspiration from that to get through Peru. As it stands, they are just two points from being knocked out of the 2026 World Cup.
Another part of Brazil’s potential problem will be the absence of some of its biggest stars. Neymar, the team’s talisman, is injured and hasn’t been available for some time. Additionally, other key players such as Vinicius Junior, Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson, and defenders Bremer and Eder Militao are also sidelined with injuries.
Without these world-class players, Brazil will likely struggle to find their usual rhythm and dominance on the field. Although these players have been there for years and have also struggled with the team, they are undeniably Brazil’s best players.
Brazil has already gone through two coaches since the 2022 World Cup. Dorival Junior, the current manager, is Brazil’s third head coach in just two years. He is under immense pressure to turn things around quickly, as the threat of not automatically qualifying for the World Cup is becoming very real.
Savinho has voiced his concerns about Brazil’s current predicament. In a press conference ahead of Brazil’s match against Chile, he openly admitted that the team is worried. “It is worrying because of the position we are in and what the fans expect from us,” Savinho said. “The time has come. It’s a very good moment for all the players to show what Brazil is, where we deserve to be.”
The team just has to step up
With Neymar and Vinicius out, Savinho knows that he and the other forwards need to step up and take responsibility. He mentioned that it is not just up to him, but also players like Rodrygo, Gabriel Martinelli, Lucas Paqueta, Bruno Guimares, and Endrick. “If each one takes a little responsibility and puts it on the field, we will stand out against our opponents,” Savino said.
The responsibility to deliver for Brazil from possible elimination does not just fall on the younger players. Savinho’s Manchester City teammate Ederson, one of Brazil’s experienced goalkeepers, also emphasized the need for leadership from the senior players. He believes that the team will need both the young and old eggs in the team to rise and drive the team to the World Cup finals in 2026.
Despite their poor form, Brazil’s fate is still in their own hands. The top six teams in the South American qualifying group automatically go through to the World Cup, and Brazil is currently in fourth place. While this is not the position they would have hoped for, it means they still control their destiny. Winning the matches in Peru could help boost them back up the rankings and ease some of the pressure on the team.
However, if they fail to secure the win against Peru, they could find themselves in an even more precarious situation. The seventh-placed team will have to go through a playoff to qualify, something Brazil has never had to do before. Such a scenario would be seen as very humiliating for a country with such a strong footballing tradition.
Savinho’s admission of fear for Brazil’s World Cup future is just an insight to the anxiety surrounding the team. Their fans are very passionate about the game, so you can expect the mother of backlashes from the fans if they fail to qualify.
With their recent poor performances in qualifiers, Brazil faces the risk of missing out on automatic qualification for the 2026 World Cup. Injuries to key players like Neymar, Allison, and Eder Militao have made the situation even more difficult.
Regardless of everything, Brazil’s fate is still in their hands, and the team’s upcoming matches will be crucial in determining their path forward. Failure is surely not an option, and the fear of humiliation should even drive them to deliver the positive results the fans and the country expect.
Fulham and Wolves will face off in one of the Premier League week ten encounters fixed for late November. It is no longer early days in the 2024-25 season, so the table is fast taking shape and a lot of the teams are making their intentions known with almost one-third of the season gone.
The two teams have been regulars around the midtable and they might be looking to finish at a level higher than that at the end of the campaign.
As of the time of writing, Wolves are bottom of the log with just a point after seven games, while Fulham are 8th after three wins and two draws from their opening seven games of the season. Without any doubt, the home side is in better shape than their visitors and this could determine the outcome of this fixture.
Fulham have already racked up some wins in the Premier League this season. The Cottagers have beaten Newcastle United and Leicester City as of the time of writing, while they have lost twice this campaign – Manchester United and Manchester City.
As for Wolves, they have not done much this campaign as they are struggling to get points under their belt. Wolves have lost six of their seven opening games – Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle, Liverpool, Brentford and Aston Villa.
In the transfer market, the Cottagers lost influential Portuguese midfielder João Palhinha to Bayern Munich, Tosin Adarabioyo also left the club as a free agent after the expiration of his contract, while a loyal servant of the club – Bobby De Cordova-Reid – moved on to newly promoted Premier League side Leicester City. Midfielder Tyrese Francois also left London for League One club Wigan.
In return, just before the transfer window came to a close, Fulham raided a few London clubs to make some signings. Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith Rowe arrived from Arsenal, Joachim Andersen from Palace, and Ryan Sessegnon returned to the club on a free transfer from Tottenham. Jorge Cuenca and Sander Berge arrived from Villarreal and Burnley respectively.
On the other hand, Wolves made some personnel changes. Rodrigo Gomes arrived from Braga, André from Fluminense, Sam Johnstone from Crystal Palace, Pedro Lima from Sport Recife, Tommy Doyle from Manchester City, and Jørgen Strand Larsen arrived on a loan deal from Celta de Vigo. Meanwhile, Max Kilman made a big-money move to West Ham United as well as Pedro Neto who left for Chelsea, and Daniel Podence moved to Saudi Arabia.
Gary O’Neill did a good job at Wolves last season and the club’s management were pleased with his efforts and duly rewarded him with a new deal ahead of this particular campaign.
Chairman Jeff Shi said: “I think Gary is a key member of the team, maybe even the most important member, so we are very happy to have him here for the long term. The team together – me, Gary, [sporting director] Matt Hobbs, and all the staff – we are working very closely to prepare for the new season. Gary is key and we are happy to have a very young, talented, capable, and outstanding manager here,” Shi said.
However, seven games into the new season, they have struggled to a great length with just a point to their name and six defeats. The owners will not be pleased with what they have seen so far, but the lack of quality players in attack has left them in a tight corner weeks into the new season. Unless they make a drastic change, they are in for the relegation fight this season.
Fulham and Wolves have played 26 Games since 2003. Among them, Fulham won 4 games, Wolves won 13 and drew 9. Based on history, Wolves should take this one ordinarily but their current form, as at the time of writing, is nothing to write home about.
Match tickets
The epic match at Craven Cottage in Fulham kicks off on Saturday, November 23rd, 2024, at 16:00 GMT.
The 25,700-capacity stadium will host this clash between two teams aiming to make a strong run in the season’s early stages.
Getting tickets for the Fulham vs Wolves tickets could take a lot of work given the standard of this game. Hence, you are advised to search ticket reselling sites should they be expectedly sold out on each club’s channels.
Team news
Line-ups
As of the time of writing, Carlos Vinicius and Jorge Cuenca remain the only injured players in Fulham’s ranks. That said, the Cottagers should start with almost the same team that started most of the games so far this season.
Pereira, who has been given a more central role since the arrival of Smith Rowe from Arsenal, should sit alongside Lukic to orchestrate things in the middle of the park. Iwobi and Traore – who have made solid starts to the season – have roles to play in this particular encounter and barring any injuries, Raul Jimenez – who has found his form back – should lead the line for the home side in this encounter.
Wolves do have several players out injured like Boubacar Traore (knee), Yerson Mosquera (knee), Sasa Kalajdzic, Leon Chiwome, and a host of others. Others with minor injuries are all expected to make a return to the team. However, the manager will hope that the other fit players in the team can get things done.
Fulham have an excellent team and they have a strong squad that can challenge any team in the Premier League topflight. They went head-to-head with Manchester City back in October and could have taken at least a point if they were good with their finishing.
Meanwhile, Wolves are up against it, morale is down and performance is nothing to write home about. They will need to raise their game if they want to maintain their dominance against the Cottagers.
