“If Money is Good Enough” Rahul Dravid on Possibilities on his Biopic

The former India head coach Rahul Dravid has made a funny statement while being asked about a biopic that was made on his life. He said that he might play himself in the biopic if the money is good.

In 2016, a biopic on former Indian skipper MS Dhoni was released on screen which was the most successful biopic on Indian cricketers or sportspersons til now. Recently, a biopic on India cricketer Yuvraj Singh was announced and speculations were made on who will be playing his character.

He shared this during a Q&A session, showcasing his characteristic wit. During the session, the former India batter was asked “Who will play Rahul Dravid in a Biopic?”.

“If the money is good enough, I’ll play it myself.” replied to the question. Referred to as ‘The Wall,’ Dravid was the previous head of India when the side secured the runners in the 2023 Cricket World Cup and won the title in T20 World Cup 2024.

Known for his calmness and strategies, he attributed their unbeaten run to consistent preparation and Strategy. Reflecting on the approach, he said, “Honestly, I did not want to do anything different. We ran a fantastic campaign in the One Day World Cup.”

“The common consensus among the team was that we needed to create the same energy, vibe, and team atmosphere that we had before, and then just hope for a bit of luck.”

“To travel all over this country and to be able to experience that joy and passion of the fans. I’ve never been a part of a World Cup as a player in India, but just the experience as a coach to go from city to city and just walk and see what this game meant to the people of this country was phenomenal. It was incredible,” Dravid said.

“I thought we ran a phenomenal campaign. We came unstuck in the final and Australia played better cricket than us on the day. They were a better team and congratulations (to them). That can happen in sport and that’s what sport is about,” Dravid added.

Rahul Dravid stepped down from India’s head coach position after the Men in Blues returned as winners of the T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies under Rohit Sharma‘s Captaincy.

“To Contribute As Much” Cameron Green on Preparations for Border Gavaskar Trophy

Cameron Green opens on Pat Cummins’ statement on the bowling workload of all-rounders Cameron Green and Mitchell Marsh ahead of the Border Gavaskar Trophy against India.

He aims to play alongside pacer trio Cummins, Starc, and Josh Hazlewood to sustain themselves throughout the intense battle against India.

The much anticipated Border Gavaskar Trophy will commence in the month of November. With India having won their last two series in Australia, they will be facing a challenge from Australia’s consistent bowling attack through their recent test matches.

Cameron Green who was the additional pace option during the West Indies series, is eager to take on more significant responsibilities.

“I’ve thought about it as an ‘in 10 years’ time sort of thing’. But definitely, at the moment, I’m very happy to contribute as much as I can. Physically I’m in a really good place to be able to do that,” said Cameron Green.

We always laugh and joke between me and Mitch about who bowls those graveyard overs between the 70th and the 80th overs when the ball is not doing anything. We’ll wait and see how we do it this summer.

“But now my body’s in a really good place where I feel like I can contribute with bowling. Down the track it’s definitely an option but at the moment I’m very happy to be a genuine allrounder.”

Green is committed to establishing himself in Australia’s white-ball side given he remains only a fringe ODI and T20I player at Present. Coach Andrew McDonald has previously hinted at the possibility of Australia facing Pakistan in limited-overs games through early November.

“Obviously had a bit of success with it last year,” said Green, who has been named in both white-ball squads for the next month’s tour of the United Kingdom and will be in consideration for next year’s ODI Champions Trophy.

“Having an extended break (from white-ball cricket) before a Test tour, it’s going to help for sure. I really enjoyed doing it last year and there’s potentially a chance to do it again this year.

“I obviously love playing for WA, playing Shield cricket is awesome, I think it’s the best preparation you can have for a Test tour.

“But at the same time, you always want to play for Australia, especially when there always seems to be a World Cup or a Champions Trophy just around the corner.

“If you decide to not do a white-ball series, is it going to hurt your chances for the Champions Trophy, for example? There’s always these things you’ve got to weigh up. So it’s still up in the air,” concluded Cameron Green.

Coming to the tournament, the first test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2025 will begin on November 22 at Optus Stadium.

The Wk-Batter Mohammad Rizwan smashed his third test century on Day 02 of the first test match against Bangladesh. Saud Shakeel and Rizwan put up a dominant partnership which helped Pakistan to post 256/4 before lunch.

Rizwan becomes the second wk-batter with three or more hundreds in tests since 2021. He also stands second next to Kamran Akmal by Pakistan wicketkeepers to have the most hundreds in home tests.

Pakistan struggled with early dismissals, having lost three wickets for 16 runs. Shafique, Shan Masood, and Babar Azam lost their wickets. Saim Ayub and Saud Shakeel posted half-centuries helping the side to recover from the dismissals.

Shakeel was unbeaten with 57 runs while the debutant Ayub scored 56 for his maiden fifty when they built a stand of 98 runs for the fourth wicket. Shakeel has amassed his 1000 test runs in the 11th test when he reached 33 runs. He further added 44 runs for the fifth wickets alongside Rizwan who remained unbeaten for 24 runs.

Shakeel marked his seventh half-century in the format. Meanwhile, Ayub’s innings came to an end in the second session of the day where he hit four boundaries and six before falling victim to Hasan Mahmud’s bowling.

Pakistan ended the day one with 158 runs for four wickets. Resuming on day 02, Saud Shakeel and Rizwan continued to bat posting a century each.

Lizelle Lee joins Hobart Hurricanes on two year contract

Former South African opener Lizelle Lee has signed a contract extension with Hobart Hurricanes ahead of the WBBL draft. Lee, who joined the Hurricanes in 2022, will continue her association with the club until at least the end of WBBL|11.

As per the WBBL 2024 schedule, Hobart Hurricanes will play their first match of the tournament against Sydney Thunder Women on October 28 in Bellerive Oval, Hobart.

Lee has been signed under the league’s new multi-year, pre-draft contract provision for overseas players.

The introduction of the multi-year provision enables each club to sign one overseas player for up to three years outside of the WBBL draft, securing high-profile talent for clubs on a longer-term basis, a report in CA says.

“I feel like the team made some strong progress last season, and I am looking forward to playing my role and natural game as we look to bring Tasmania and the Hurricanes their first WBBL trophy,” Lee said in a statement from Hobart.

Lee was the club’s leading run scorer in WBBL|09, scoring 409 runs at an impressive strike rate of 146.07.

“With her and Junior [Elyse Villani] at the top of our order, I think we have arguably the most experienced and talented opening pairing in the WBBL.

She [Lee] provided us with great versatility with our overseas pre-signing, and considering we had the number one pick in the WBBL draft it made sense for us to pre-sign someone who we know can play a role for us.

She can change the game with the bat and in the field, having done so time and time again in international cricket for South Africa and in the WBBL”, said Cricket Tasmania’s general manager Salliann Beams.

Hurricanes squad for WBBL|10 (so far): Nicola Carey, Heather Graham, Ruth Johnston, Hayley Silver-Holmes, Amy Smith, Lauren Smith, Molly Strano, Rachel Trenaman, Elyse Villani

Sydney Sixers Secures Akeal Hoesin for BBL14

Akeal Hosein

The West Indies cricketer Akeal Hosein has signed a deal with three-time champions Sydney Sixers for BBL14. The Sixers attempted to bolster their spin attack which has an open slot with left-arm orthodox spinner Steve O’keefe announced his BBL retirement.

Hosein has been in good form with the ball in hand. The Trinidadian finished the recent season of The Hundred 2024 as the second-leading wicket-taker for Southern Brave after Tymal Mills. He bagged 12 wickets in nine matches for Southern Brave at an average of 20.66 and an economy rate of 8.75.

Hosein had a brilliant performance in T20 World Cup 2024 picking seven games at an economy rate of 5.64, including a five-wicket haul with a return of 5/11 against debutant Uganda.

He has picked up 28 wickets in 57 T20Is and also claimed 159 wickets in T20 matches. While speaking about Akeal Hosein’s signing, Sixers general manager Rachael Haynes said, “We’re thrilled to have Akeal on board with the club this summer.”

“With the retirement of Steve O’Keefe last season, we identified a gap for us to fill and Akeal is going to play a key role for us in that position.

“We expect him to bowl some really important overs for us, but we also know he’s a talented fielder and a capable tail-end batter who’ll be able to provide crucial runs in the back end of an innings if required.

“Aside from being one of the best spinners in the world, we know Hosein is a great team person and someone who will fit in well with our group and our fans will love to watch this summer.” Meanwhile, Adelaide Strikers has signed Ollie Pope for the BBL14.

With the BBL draft set to take place on September 01, Sydney Sixers signed Akeal Hosein as a pre-draft signing. Sydney Sixers will be playing their first match of the BBL14 season against Melbourne Renegades on December 16 at Sydney Cricket Ground.

Adelaide Strikers Signs Ollie Pope for BBL 2024-25

Ollie Pope (image: X)

England batter Ollie Pope joined Adelaide Strikers as a pre-draft signing for the BBL 2024-25 season. But he will be missing the Striker’s first game of the season against Sydney Thunder on December 17 as the England test side will be finishing their series against New Zealand on December 18.

With signing for the franchise, Pope will be playing alongside big stars like Alex Carey, Chris Lynn, Matthew Short, and D’Arcy Short. His T20 record with Surrey has earned him the deal from the Strikers.

Pope has a good record while playing for Surrey with an average of 33.25 across 50 games. But his recent performance in The Hundred 2024 for London Spirit could be a concern as he scored only 35 runs in five outings for the side.

While speaking about joining the BBL franchise Adelaide Strikers, Pope said, “Signing with the Adelaide Strikers is an incredible opportunity for me. Adelaide is such a fantastic city with a vibrant cricket culture, and the Adelaide Oval is one of the most iconic grounds in the world.”

“I’m really looking forward to playing in front of the passionate Strikers fans and being part of a team with such a strong reputation,”  said Ollie Pope.

Pope has captained Surrey in the Vitality T20 Blast 2024, scoring 205 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 133.98.

Meanwhile, Strikers head coach Tim Paine expressed his delight over signing Pope and highlighted that his addition to the squad will be highly beneficial for the side.

“Ollie Pope is an exceptional talent with a proven track record at the highest level. His dynamic batting style and wicket-keeping abilities are a fantastic addition to our squad.”

“We’re thrilled to have him on board and believe he will be a key player for us this season. His experience and leadership will undoubtedly elevate our team,” said Paine.

Ollie Pope is currently leading England in the three-match test series against Sri Lanka. He became the 82nd test captain after Ben Stokes was ruled out for the series due to a hamstring injury he sustained during The Hundred 2024 competition.

England bowled out Sri Lanka for 236 runs in the first innings of the test at the Emirates Old Trafford Stadium.

Saud Shakeel, Saim Ayub’s half centuries Assists Pakistan’s Recovery Against Bangladesh

Pakistan’s left-handed batters Saud Shakeel and Saim Ayub smashed half-centuries on Day 01 of the first test between Pakistan and Bangladesh. The day’s play was affected by rain, but the duo managed to rescue the side to post a total of 158 runs for four wickets at Stumps.

He further added 44 runs for the fifth wickets alongside Mohammad Rizwan who remained unbeaten for 24 runs.

Shakeel marked his seventh half-century in the format. Meanwhile, Ayub’s innings came to an end in the second session of the day where he hit four boundaries and six before falling victim to Hasan Mahmud’s bowling.

Shoriful Islam and Mahmud picked two wickets each. Shoriful dismissed Shan Masood for six and Babar Azam on a duck. Pakistan has approached the test will full strength pace attack featuring four fast bowlers and no spinner. Meanwhile, Bangladesh fielded three pacers and two spinners.

The two-match test series will be part of the WTC cycle where Pakistan secured sixth position while Bangladesh secured 8th position in the WTC points table.

“We tried to bowl in the right areas and got early success,” Mahmud said. “We will come up with a plan to get early wickets on this pitch tomorrow.”

“We lost early wickets so it was important to build partnerships and we did that and I am sure the good work will continue tomorrow,” said Ayub.

De Silva, Rathnayake Revives Sri Lanka Against England After Top Order Collapse

0
Milan Rathnayake and De Silva

Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva and debutant Milan Rathnayake revived the side after the top order collapsed on day 01 of the first test of Sri Lanka’s tour of England 2024.

Winning the toss Sri Lanka opted to bat where they lost 5 wickets for 80 runs before the lunch break. The visitors fought back from being 6-3 after seven overs which they found hard to bat due to the hard pitch. They further lost two wickets before Dhananjaya de Silva and Milan Rathnayake joined forces to lead the side to cross the 200 runs mark.

De Silva scored 74 runs on 84 deliveries and his 15th half-century before being dismissed by Shoaib Bashir. Meanwhile, the debutant Milan Rathnayake composed a knock of 72 runs from 135 deliveries, the highest by a debutant at No.9 in Tests.

Despite their brilliant efforts, Sri Lanka couldn’t post a high total due to the top-order collapse which handed England an advantage at Old Trafford. Sri Lanka has been bowled out for 236 with England’s exclusively on spin bowling for the final hour of their bowling stint.

Even though a total was seemingly low for par and Pope anticipated a dry surface at Old Trafford, Sri Lanka’s innings in the second half have helped the visitors a lot. Chris Woakes and Shoaib Bashir picked three wickets each while Gus Atkinson picked two wickets helping the side in the match.

England’s Ben Duckett and Daniel Lawrence opened the innings for the side scoring 22 runs with no loss of wickets by the end of Day 01.

BR-W vs GUY-W Pitch Report

The pitch at Brian Lara Stadium provides an intriguing contest between bat and ball. In the early overs, batters with good timing can thrive, but as the game unfolds, the surface becomes more conducive to spin, turning into a haven for spinners.

The pitch slows down significantly, making shot-making increasingly challenging. This change in behavior is expected to be most evident in the second innings, giving spinners greater influence over the game.

A captain opting to bat first could take advantage of the initial favorable conditions to set a strong total before the pitch starts aiding the bowlers.
