The heated exchange between Virat Kohli and Sam Konstas during the fourth test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy has drawn attention which prompted a review by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

According to Cricket.com.au, the incident happend when both players walked into each other on the field, leading to verbal exchange.

Australia opener Usman Khawaja stepped in to try and solve the tension, even placing an arm around Kohli in an attempt to clam things down and umpire Michael Gough also intervened to sort out the situation.

The ICC is now to review to exchange match refree Andy Pycroft expected to look into the matter. The incident has caugh attention of ICC for potential violation of the Code of Conduct, specifically regarding inappropriate Physical contact.

The relevant clause of the Code prohibits any form of reckless or deliberate physical contact between players, and walking or running into another player—whether it be intentional or negligent—could result in sanctions.

If the matter is judged as level two offense, either Kohli or Konstas could receive three or four demerits points, which could their disciplinary record.

After the incident, Konstas had impressed with 60-run knock off 65 balls during his debut innings. His knock included 6 fours and two sixes, but his innings was eventually ended by Ravindra Jadeja.

Konstas scored 18 runs off an over by Bumrah and a total of 34 in a spell. His knock helped Australia to score 112 runs which is the most runs in the first session of Boxing Day test history.

Virat Kohli, Sam Konstas Involved in Altercation at MCG

India star batter Virat Kohli and Australia debutant Sam Konstas had a mid-pitch altercation in the first session of the fourth test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

The incident occured after the 10th over of the morning when Kohli and Konstas bumped shoulders while moving across the pitch once the over ended.

Both players looked back for a death stare and exchanged words before Konstas’ partner Usman Khawaja came in between, although the verbal dual didn’t last long.

Replays emerged later showed that Konstas had turned around from the crease and was walking straight towards the other end whereas Kohli while tossing the ball in his hand went from way outside the pitch straight towards Konstas and bumped into him.

“I think the emotions got to both of us,” told Konstas. “I didn’t quite realise, I was doing my gloves, then a little shoulder charge, but it happens in cricket.”

“Have a look at where Virat walks,” said former captain Ricky Ponting observed while commentating. “Virat’s walked one whole pitch over to his right and instigated that confrontation. No doubt in my mind, whatsoever.”

Meanwhile former umpire Simon Taufel also spoke to tv channel about the incident and said that could be considered as ‘inappropriate physical start’ under the ICC’s Code of Conduct.

“This long shot that’s been provided by the director is really interesting because it shows Virat Kohli actually changing his line to get into the personal space of Sam Konstas.”

“Now, there’s a clause within the ICC Code of Conduct that talks about inappropriate physical contact and that’s the clause that the umpires and the referee will be looking at, at close of play today to see whether or not Virat’s actions fall into that category and my suggestion would be that they’ll probably – looking at that seriously – more than likely do something about that now.”

Konstas made his debut in the ongoing fourth match where he smashed 52-ball fifty, before being dismissed by Jadeja.

Konstas was on 5 off 21 before started his aggressive shots off Bumrah and finished on 60 off 65 with six fours and two sixes, when he was dismissed on LBW from around the wicket by Ravindra Jadeja.

Test debutant Sam Konstas challenged Jasprit Bumrah’s legacy on day 01 of the fourth test and scored 34 runs in a single spell.

He Put up a show during the boxing day test against India, smashing a half-century in the first session. India’s stalwart has been in red-hot form and is the leading wicket-taker in the series so far.

Konstas scored 18 runs off an over by Bumrah and a total of 34 in a spell. His knock helped Australia to score 112 runs which is the most runs in the first session of Boxing Day test history.

He was then later removed by Jadeja for 60 in the 20th over. Sam Konstas has replaced Nathan McSweeney for the remaining tests of the Border Gavaskar Trophy after the latter failed to grab opportunities in the first three games.

Meanwhile Konstas proved himself after he scored a hundred in the practice game against India A and also smashed some hundreds in Shield Cricket.

Australia-India clash is one of the crucial encounters in ongoing WTC 2023-25 cycle and the ongoing fourth test is one of the most importance for both teams. A win at MCG will ensure at least a draw in the series. India need to win both the tests if they need to secure a place in the WTC finals.

Meanwhile Usman Khawaja who opened the innings along with Konstas, has also smashed 57 runs before being dismissed by Bumrah at Melbourne Cricket Ground.

During a change of ends, Virat Kohli intentionally marched towards the teenager and bumped shoulders forcing intervention from the umpires.

Earlier India dropped Shubman Gill for the Boxing day clash and recalling spinner Washington Sundar for the playing 11.

“You Shouldn’t Give Me..” Ashwin Express Gratitude on Kapil Dev’s Farewell Remark

Former Indian captain Kapit Dev has been disappointed with Ashwin’s international retirement during the Border Gavaskar Trophy without a grand farewell like Sachin Tendulkar received.

Despite Ashwin expressing gratitude for Kapil Dev’s wish, he said that he doesn’t believe in farewell ceremonies.

“I wish I had been there, I wouldn’t have let him go like that. I would have sent him with a lot of respect and happiness,” said a disappointed Kapil Dev.

Ashwin who had a conversation with television presenter Gobinath on a YouTube Show, has calculated that no cricketer deserves a grand farewell and that such ceremonies should also be reserved for ‘Super celebrities’.

He further said no farewell from BCCI did not leave him with any regret and happy with what he has achieved in his career.

“As far as I am concerned, grand farewells are wrong. I don’t think you should give grand farewell ceremonies to anyone. Especially, I firmly believe that you shouldn’t give me a grand farewell.”

    Ravichandran Ashwin(Image: BCCI)
    Ravichandran Ashwin(Image: BCCI)

“I don’t want anyone shedding a drop of tear for me. I think grand send-offs are part of a super celebrity culture,” said Ashwin.

“Why should we run behind someone? I understand we run behind someone for the love we have for them.”

“But I feel that people should get inspired by one’s achievements, the legacy that one leaves behind, the way one left the game, and the way one has spoken about the game. But farewells are wrong, I think.”

“If there is a match that has been organised just to celebrate me, I think it’s a disservice to the game,” Ashwin added.

“I don’t have any regrets about it. Zero regrets. If I am not happy with 537 wickets, then for what will I be happy?

Why should I be sad about something that’s not there? There is great joy in acceptance. You chase something that you don’t have. But don’t regret something that you don’t have. Don’t crib about it.”

Ashwin retires from the game as India’s second highest wicket-taker in tests with 537 scalps in 106 games. He has made 116 ODI appearance with 156 wickets while has 72 wickets in 65 T20Is.

“I quit this part of my life. It was a full stop to that part of my life. I can talk cricket, I do YouTube, I love coaching. I can keep myself happy around cricket. I will stay connected with cricket.

“I don’t have any regrets; I am not angry at anyone. I didn’t cry even one bit. No one else is responsible for my retirement. If there’s someone, I am not aware of it,” he added.

Meanwhile Ravichandran Ashwin will continue to play T20 tournaments and he will represent Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025 after joining the side for INR 9.75 crore.

“They Can’t Drop” Sunil Gavaskar Warns India on Selection Dilemma for Boxing Day Test

With India suffering from selection dilemmas for the Boxing Day test of the Border Gavaskar trophy 2024-25, Sunil Gavaskar has warned about the idea of dropping Nitish Reddy for the Melbourne Test.

After the Gabba test ended in a draw, it triggered a wave of planned and speculative changes with the legendary cricketer adding importance to the decisions the Indian team management must make.

The significant shift came with Ashwin’s retirement announcement immediately after the third test at Gabba in Brisbane.

Ashwin’s absence has left a void in the squad and Tanush Kotian has been brought in as replacement.

As Australia named their playing 11 for the fourth test, all have turned eyes on India’s playing Xl. One of the biggest debates centres around Nitish Reddy’s place in Xl.

    India Cricket team
    India Cricket team (image: X)

While some believe Washington Sundar should replace Reddy to provide India with an additional spinning option, Gavaskar strong oppose the idea.

“They can’t drop Nitish Kumar Reddy. He is the fourth seamer. I can’t see India going in with just two pacers and Nitish. For me, it is pretty much this XI that plays in Melbourne,” said Gavaskar.

Gavaskar concluded by saying, “Unlikely that Harshit will replace Akash Deep. Why would you drop a man who has saved your team from follow-on?”

The legendary batter feels it unlikely that Harshit Rana will replace Akash Deep especially after the pacer played a key role in the follow on.

Meanwhile, Indian team also considers changing to the top order for the upcoming Boxing Day test at the MCG. Rohit Sharma might return to open, and KL Rahul could move to No. 3 with Shubman Gill facing, have been struggling with bat down under.

The third match of the BGT ended in draw after the rain spoiled the game on day 05 and both sides have one victory each. The fourth match of the Australia-India tests will be played beginning on December 26 at Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Hayden Offers Advise to Virat Kohli’s Outside Off-Stump Weakness

    Virat Kohli
    Virat Kohli (image: X)

Australia batting great Matthew Hayden has offered Virat Kohli who has been struggling with inconsistent series so far with scores of 5, 100*, 7, 11, and 3 in his last five innings, has amassed 126 runs at an average of 31.50.

“There could have been magnificent wins, there could have been losses, there could have been spinning conditions, I mean, you can list off a hundred different areas where Virat Kohli, over his magnificent career, would have batted.

“But in Melbourne, he’s going to have a good batting track. What he does need to do is find a way to continue staying at the crease. Flashing outside the off-stump is something that he’s going to have to resist,” told Hayden.

“And I suggest – he gets in line with the ball a bit more and looks to play down the ground a little bit more…”

    Virat Kohli
    Virat Kohli (image: X)

Hayden’s cited Tendulkar’s iconic 241 not out during 2004 Sydney Test as an example of how self restraint can turn things around.

“I know he (Kohli) has a magnificent cover driver, but so did Sachin Tendulkar, and he put it away for a day. I sat in the gully licking my lips, thinking, you know what, this is magnificent, stubborn batting.”

During the 2004 tour of Australia, Tendulkar, battling a lean patch, showcased remarkable self-restraint and determination by completely avoiding his trademark off-side drives for the entire 613 minutes he spent at the crease.

“I didn’t look like getting a catch that day, and yet I felt like I was in the game that entire series. So, Sachin put away the cover drive, worked his way into the innings, hit off his legs beautifully, took on the spin, and addressed the areas of concern,” Hayden continued

“He put a big cross through them and said, ‘Not on my watch today.’ Virat Kohli has got that personality, and I’m sure we’ll see it in Melbourne.”

The third match of the BGT ended in draw after the rain spoiled the game on day 05 and both sides have one victory each. The fourth match of the Australia-India tests will be played beginning on December 26 at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
