Shreyas Iyer’s incredible form continued as he smashed a brilliant 233, helping Mumbai reach a massive 602/4 declared in their Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match against Odisha on Thursday.

This was Iyer’s second straight century in the tournament, marking his highest-ever first-class score. He scored rapidly, striking at nearly 103, dominating Odisha’s bowlers all around the field.

Siddhesh Lad, making a strong comeback, also played a remarkable knock of 169 not out, hitting 17 fours in his patient 337-ball stay. Together, Iyer and Lad put up a record-breaking 354-run partnership for the fourth wicket, giving Mumbai a commanding position in their quest for a 43rd Ranji Trophy title.

Home spinners Shams Mulani (2/52) and Himanshu Singh (2/22) then provided crucial breakthroughs to reduce the visitors to 146 for five.

Odisha are still trailing by another 456 runs in the first essay and have Sandeep Pattanaik (73 not out) and Debabrata Pradhan (7) at the crease.

Shardul Thakur provided an early breakthrough when he cleaned up the Odisha opener Swastik Samal for a seven-ball duck.

Odisha recovered strongly as Anurag Sarangi and Pattanaik put on 107 for the second wicket until the former was cleaned up by lanky spinner Himanshu Singh.

Soon after, Mulani had Odisha skipper Govinda Poddar (0) caught behind and Himanshu had Biplab Samantaray (0) caught by Ajinkya Rahane at first slip.

In Pune, Maharashtra slipped to 185 all-out against Services’ 293 in the first innings as the visitors took a big 108-run lead in the first innings at the MCA Stadium.

Services were 15/0 in second essay, with an overall lead of 123 runs.

After Hitesh Walunj’s five for 103 helped Maharashtra restrict Services, Amit Shukla returned 7/65 as the hosts were bowled out for 185 despite skipper Ankit Bawane’s 73.

At Shillong, visitors Jammu and Kashmir were 16 for one and needed another 59 runs to win after hosts Meghalaya folded for another low score of 195 in the second innings, setting a target of 75 to win.

J&K, who had shot Meghalaya out for a mere 73 in the first innings, made 194 in reply to take a 121-run lead.

At Agartala, hosts Tripura were placed strongly at 192 for one in reply to Baroda’s 235 in the first innings.

Bikram Kumar Das (97) fell short of his century but Jiwanjot Singh (58 not out) and Tejasvi Jaiswal (34 not out) took them to 192 for one, trailing by another 43 runs.

    Brief Scores:

At Mumbai: Mumbai 602/4 decl. in 123.5 overs (Angkrish Raghuvanshi 92, Siddhesh Lad 169**, Shreyas Iyer 233, Suryansh Shedge 79*; Biplab Samantaray 2/57) lead Odisha 146/5 in 49 overs (Sandeep Pattanaik 73 not out; Shams Mulani 2/52, Himanshu Singh 2/22) by 456 runs.

At Pune: Services 293 in 110.3 overs (Suraj Vashisht 79, Shubham Rohilla 67, Ravi Chauhan 59, Rajat Paliwal 57; Hitesh Walunj 5/103) & 15/0 in 6 overs lead Maharashtra 185 in 58.5 overs (Ankit Bawane 73; Amit Shukla 7/65) by 123 runs.

At Shillong: Meghalaya 73 & 195 (Arpit Subhas 74; Auqib Nabi 5/60) lead Jammu and Kashmir 194 in 51.4 overs (Abid Mushtaq 37, Aryan 5/42) & 16/1 in 4 overs (Ahmad Banday 5*; Dippu 1/3) by 59 runs.

James Anderson wants to Grow his ‘Knowledge of the Game’ through IPL

    0
    James Anderson

England s pace great James Anderson says he has listed himself for the upcoming IPL mega auction to enhance his knowledge about the game having ended his international career as the most successful fast bowler in Test cricket earlier this year.

In a surprising move the 42-year-old Anderson who last played a T20 match in 2014 and never played a match in the Indian Premier League registered himself for the auction slated to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah at a base price of Rs 1.25 crore.

Anderson retired from Test cricket after 188 matches for England earlier this year taking 704 wickets to finish as the third highest wicket-taker ever behind Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan (800) and Australia s spin wizard Shane Warne (708).

There is still definitely something in me that thinks like I can still play. I have never done the IPL I have never experienced it and I think for a number of reasons I feel like I have more to give as a player Anderson told BBC Radio 4 Today in a podcast.

Anderson said by playing in the world s biggest T20 league he not only wants to keep learning as a bowler but also wants to draw more experience and knowledge as a coach.

I have done a little bit of coaching since I have finished in the summer. I have been around the England team doing a bit of mentoring or whatever you like to call it he said.

I just think opening my eyes to something like that and experiencing it sort of might help me grow my knowledge of the game and help further down the line Anderson added.

Anderson known as the Burnley Express last played a T20 game for his County side Lancashire in August 2014 while his last appearance in the format for England came in November 2009.

Gaby Lewis to lead Ireland Women in Bangladesh tour

    0
    ireland women squad

Cricket Ireland has named Gaby Lewis as the captain of the Ireland T20I and ODI squad for the Bangladesh tour. During the Ireland Women’s Tour of Bangladesh 2024, a total of three ODIs and three T20Is will be played between 27 November and 9 December 2024.

The Ireland Women’s Tour of Bangladesh 2024 will mark the Irish side visiting the Asian country for the first time in 10 years to play a six-match multi-format series.

Bangladesh Women and Ireland Women have interesting head-to-head stats. Both teams have played 11 T20Is in which Bangladesh won eight games and Ireland won three.

Ireland Women ODI Squad: Gaby Lewis (captain) Ava Canning, Christina Coulter Reilly, Laura Delany, Sarah Forbes, Amy Hunter, Arlene Kelly, Aimee Maguire, Jane Maguire, Cara Murray, Leah Paul, Orla Prendergast, Una Raymond-Hoey, Freya Sargent, Alice Tector.

Ireland Women T20 Squad: Gaby Lewis (captain), Ava Canning, Christina Coulter Reilly, Laura Delany, Sarah Forbes, Amy Hunter, Arlene Kelly, Aimee Maguire, Jane Maguire, Cara Murray, Leah Paul, Orla Prendergast, Una Raymond-Hoey, Freya Sargent, Rebecca Stokell.

Ed Joyce, Head Coach of Ireland Women, said: “It’s probably the toughest selection we’ve ever had – and I think that’s a really positive thing. One of the objectives when I took over the job was to try and build depth in the group. If you’re making selection difficult it’s a good sign of progress. The players are all hungry to get into the team, so there were some difficult phone calls there to make.

“In terms of specifics, we we’ve picked three spinners as we feel going to that part of the world may potentially require playing all three of them. And then on the batting side of things, I think we have a strong group that have shown they can get big scores in both formats.

“Obviously, welcoming back Laura Delany from injury will make a massive difference to that middle order. Her experience and quality across both formats is key, but she also balances the team beautifully for us in terms of her being able to bowl – so it gives us a chance to play an extra batter, if needed.

“With two all-rounders in the top four, and Amy Hunter our keeper also opening, it gives a nice balance to the team and we look in good shape with everyone fit and healthy at the start of the tour.”

In the ODI format of the game, both teams have faced off each other seven times where Bangladesh won three games, Ireland won a game and a couple of matches ended with no results. The three ODIs are part of the ICC Women’s Championship.

“We pretend to fight..” – Virat Kohli Wrote For Maxwell in his Biography

    0
Virat Kohli about Glenn Maxwell in his biography

Virat Kohli is well known for his off-field bonding with players he has played with. One such incident has been explored in Glenn Maxwell’s biography.

Kohli foreword 2 lengthy pages of his bond with Maxwell, starting from how they had met for the first time in an interview, which was interviewed by the latter on an India tour to Australia, in 2016. Elaborated on How they both have matured as players in the following days after having fights or misunderstandings on the field.

Virat Kohli wrote “..Deeper into my career, I realised that our world view as younger men wasn’t the only way to succeed. Forever combative, always on the edge, can lend you energy for a time but can ultimately be exhausting. Maxi and I have spoken since about feeling this way, where offence was easily taken and tempers frayed. He had a smile on his face more than I did, always a joker, but we were both part of a wider culture.

He added the conversation he had with the RCB management, and Ab De Villiers on how they can take Glenn Maxwell into the Royal Challengers Bangalore Setup in the IPL 2021 Auction. They ended up getting him in the auction to form a swashbuckling trio of Virat Kohli, Ab De Villiers, and Glenn Maxwell himself.

Virat Kohli added in his writing piece saying they wanted to take the attention out of de Villiers and him to have a solid batting order. “In time, the IPL can help sort out this balance for some players, and the timing of reaching this understanding helped me and Maxi. Our interview returned to mind, helping reorient my thinking towards what he might be able to do at Bangalore in 2021. Watching him play made me think he would enjoy our environment. I put this to AB de Villiers, my trusted offsider in that dressing room, and he immediately agreed. Not only did we think that Maxi would be a great fit in our middle order, we also thought he would be grateful for the chance to stop being the centre of attention, given there was already a spotlight on me and AB.”

Foreword Virat Kohli in Glenn Maxwell Biography:

Here’s what Virat Kohli Wrote About Glenn Maxwell in the latter’s biography.,

“Sit down for an interview with Glenn Maxwell? During an Indian tour to Australia in 2016, it was an interesting request. My management passed on the information, and it sounded unusual, but I cautiously agreed.

Of course, I was familiar with his work. Maxi arrived in the IPL in 2012 and there had been a lot of cricket between Australia and India since. His talent was obvious: a guy who had every shot that existed and invented some that didn’t. I would see flashes of this ridiculous ability. But we didn’t know each other beyond the back and forth on the field.

This video interview was part of a series he was doing with Cricket Australia, and our chat had the questions you might expect: my enjoyment of being anonymous in Australia, playing alongside Sachin Tendulkar, my fiery streak on the field. We were done in ten minutes.

After filming, though, when he was less nervous, we moved on to what he really wanted to speak about. It was the first time we’d spoken properly, and my impression was of a guy who wanted to take his game to the next level, and was soaking up everything he could from my experience. He asked loads of questions about my preparation and dealing with a public profile. You know when someone is really listening, wanting to learn, and Maxi was.

I marked it off as a nice experience, wished him well, and left knowing we would see each other on the field. As it turned out, in one of those games, the occasion got the better of us. I’m sure that story features in this book, and the result was a distance between us. I had a rapport with some Aussies like Steve Smith, with a rivalry underpinned by respect, but Maxi and I were competitors only. We were both at our most intense, struggling to find balance.

Deeper into my career, I realised that our world view as younger men wasn’t the only way to succeed. Forever combative, always on the edge, can lend you energy for a time but can ultimately be exhausting. Maxi and I have spoken since about feeling this way, where offence was easily taken and tempers frayed. He had a smile on his face more than I did, always a joker, but we were both part of a wider culture.

In time, the IPL can help sort out this balance for some players, and the timing of reaching this understanding helped me and Maxi. Our interview returned to mind, helping reorient my thinking towards what he might be able to do at Bangalore in 2021. Watching him play made me think he would enjoy our environment. I put this to AB de Villiers, my trusted offsider in that dressing room, and he immediately agreed.

Not only did we think that Maxi would be a great fit in our middle order, we also thought he would be grateful for the chance to stop being the centre of attention, given there was already a spotlight on me and AB. We thought that might get out the best out of him. Since his Kings XI campaign in 2014 he had been searching for his best, and we all knew he was too good not to find it eventually.

It was a thrill seeing that come to pass, and at the same time having his huge cricket intelligence engaged for us. He was a dream recruit. It lives as a frustration for both of us that we weren’t able to win the trophy in that first season.

It didn’t take long for us to develop a closeness beyond the dressing room, as it became obvious that Maxi is about genuine care and connection. There’s so much more than meets the eye. He’s an easy person to be open with, and that goes both ways. I never knew how sensitive he is as a person, and I mean that in a positive way. Our friendship expanded to our families, as we navigate our journey as fathers. We text constantly, silly things that will make the other laugh. It’s natural, like we’ve been mates forever.

When he had the night of his life in Mumbai against Afghanistan, I was thrilled for him on a personal level. I knew it would also make life more difficult for my Indian team, with Australia believing they could win from anywhere, but I was able to keep those thoughts separate while watching from Bangalore.

I missed some of the innings after Australia went four down. The game was moving so quickly in Afghanistan’s direction, and knowing their spinners, it would get no easier. Checking in as he and Pat Cummins rebuilt, I said half seriously that with Maxi there, anything could happen.

By the time he reached his century, I genuinely thought he was going to win it. I’ve seen what it’s like when Maxi gets hold of a team, and it felt like this was one of those nights. Yet to think he would end up with a double century was another layer of unbelievable.

The whole cricket world was glued to those final stages, as he kept bombing sixes on one leg, without a helmet too. Going down time and again with cramp, limping for singles it was compelling drama, and so Maxi.

When it was over, I texted him along those lines: that he is a freak and a madman. In my view, he is the only player in the world capable of doing what he did. Concluding with such a milestone was perfect, capping an unparalleled knock.

Twelve days later, in the final, when Maxi threw a ball back in, I instinctively stuck up a hand and blocked it. Earlier in our careers, with so much on the line, you can guarantee there would have been an altercation. But now? We pretended to fight for a second, before both starting to laugh.

That’s exactly as it should be competitive but respectful. When someone can make friends along the way, from unexpected beginnings like Maxi and me, we’re all the better for it. That’s special, and a bond I know will be lifelong.”

After 3 years of tenure with RCB, Glenn Maxwell was not retained by RCB ahead of the 2025 Mega Auction, but in his recent said the management had a conversation with him.  “It was a zoom call, they sort of explained to me the decision not to be retained. It was actually a very beautiful exit meeting.”

Australian Fast Bowler Michael Neser Ruled Out of Australia A Team Due to Hamstring Injury in Second Unofficial Test Against India

Australian fast bowler Michael Neser has been ruled out of the Australia A team after suffering a hamstring injury during the second unofficial Test against India at the MCG.

Neser, a backup seamer, was bowling impressively, taking key wickets of Indian batters Abhimanyu Easwaran, Sai Sudharsan, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Devdutt Padikkal. However, in his 13th over, after delivering his second ball, he began limping and had to leave the field, clearly showing signs of injury.

A Cricket Australia spokesperson confirmed that Neser will not bowl again in the match, having injured his left hamstring. He is scheduled to undergo scans to determine the severity of the injury.

Neser had previously strained the same hamstring during the last Sheffield Shield game, bowling 48.5 overs for Queensland against South Australia. This injury also ruled him out of the domestic One-Day Cup match against South Australia.

After a brief rest and recovery, Neser had returned to training and was performing well in the current match. Unfortunately, the hamstring issue resurfaced at the MCG on September 7, 2024.

Although Neser was not expected to be in Australia’s squad for the first Test against India in Perth, there were hopes for his presence later in the series.

Afghanistan v Bangladesh in UAE 2024

Initially, the series was scheduled to be played in July 2024 where a total of two tests, three ODIs and three T20Is were planned.

These three ODIs, along with three T20Is and two Tests, were originally part of Afghanistan’s Future Tour Program (FTP) and scheduled for July-August this year. However, the series was postponed due to extreme heat in the UAE and India, where ACB usually hosts its home events.

All matches of the series will be played in Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah.

In the third ODI match between West Indies and England, there was a disagreement between West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph and team captain Shai Hope about field placement. After finishing his over, Joseph left the field visibly upset.

West Indies Head Coach Darren Sammy called Joseph’s behaviour “unacceptable,” saying, “We’re friends, but in the culture, I’m building, that’s unacceptable. We’ll have a talk about it.”

Joseph returned to the field at the start of the sixth over but didn’t bowl again until the 12th. He bowled two overs, then left the field again after two fielding errors led to extra runs for England. Later, he came back to bowl two overs in the middle of the innings and finished his last three overs toward the end, ending with figures of 2 for 45 from 10 overs, dismissing Cox and Dan Mousley.

Appointed as West Indies head coach in May 2023, Sammy is known for his strong leadership and ability to manage players well. He has also convinced players like Andre Russell and Evin Lewis to rejoin the team. Sammy emphasized that he’s willing to have difficult but necessary conversations with players to help the team move in the right direction.

“Seeing the team progress step-by-step makes me proud,” Sammy said. “There’s still a lot to do, but I’m passionate about it.”

In the same match, Keacy Carty scripts history by becoming the first batter from Sint Maarten to score a century for the West Indies cricket team.
