Hasan Mahmud Picks Five-fer Against Pakistan in Rawalpindi

Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud picked his maiden five-wicket haul during the second innings of the second test in the Bangladesh tour of Pakistan 2024.

The visitors rattled Pakistan with some serious bowling tactics for just 172 runs to set themselves a target of 185 runs in the final test at Rawalpindi. Mahmud and Nahid Rana were the two architects of the hosts on September 02 as the duo shared nine wickets between them.

Hasan picked the key wickets of Shan Masood, Saud Shakeel, and Babar Azam wiping out the entire middle order of the Pakistan team.

Nahid’s bouncer even hit Mohammad Rizwan on the head and forced the batter to stay out of action in the final innings of the match when Pakistan came out to bowl.

Bangladesh came out to bat in the second session of Day 04. Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam scored aggressively in the first six overs of the final innings. With rain expected to affect the final day of the match, the hosts plan for a quick win to secure victory in the series.

The three lions scored a victory with a win in the first test of the series, their first victory ever on Pakistan soil. Najmul Shanto team will look to win the second match well to clinch their first-ever test series against Pakistan.

The hosts have been heavily criticized by fans and experts for their poor show in the series. Pakistan was shocked when spinner Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz ran through the team in the final innings of the game.

By the end of day 04, the visitors scored 46 runs for no wicket loss and needed 143 runs to win at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

“What He Has Done” Yograj Singh Blames MS Dhoni for Destroying Yuvraj’s Career

Former India captain Yograj Singh made a fresh attack on the MS Dhoni and would never be forgiven for ruining his son Yuvraj’s career.

Yograj has himself played for India and made 7 appearances in the past criticizing former India captain Dhoni on the public platform. Yograj Singh should get Bharat Ratna for playing with Cancer.

While speaking in an interview, Yograj said, “I won’t forgive MS Dhoni. He should look at his face in the mirror. He is a very big cricketer, but what he has done against my son, everything is coming out now; it can never be forgiven in life.”

“I have never done two things in life – first, I have never forgiven anybody who has done wrong for me, and second, I have never hugged them in my life, be it my family members or my kids,” said Yograj.

MS Dhoni

Yograj says after cancer, Yuvraj could have easily played for four or five years if not for MS Dhoni.

“That man (MS Dhoni) has destroyed the life of my son, who could have played four to five years more,” he said.

“I dare everyone to give birth to a son like Yuvraj. Even Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag have said in the past that there won’t be another Yuvraj Singh. India should award him the Bharat Ratna for playing with cancer and winning the World Cup for the country,” he added.

This isn’t the first time Yograj has taken a direct swipe at Dhoni. Earlier this year, the 66-year-old claimed that CSK lost IPL 2024 because of Dhoni’s bad deeds.

“CSK lost IPL 2024. Why did they lose? It’s whatever you sow, so shall you reap. Yuvraj Singh is the ICC Ambassador, hats off to him! And this jealous Dhoni, where is he? He didn’t even shake hands with Yuvraj, and that is the reason why CSK failed this year,” said Yograj.

He also slammed Kapil Dev for plotting against him to get dropped from the Indian cricket team in 1981.

“The greatest captain of our time, Kapil Dev… I told him, I’ll leave you in a position where the world would curse you. Today, Yuvraj Singh has 13 trophies, and you have only one, the World Cup. End of discussion,” he concluded.

Cricket Scotland has named Kathryn Bryce as their captain for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 set to be played in UAE.

The ninth edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is set to be hosted by Bangladesh between October 03 and 20 this year.

A total of 10 teams will play 20 group-stage matches where the top 4 teams will advance to playoffs of the tournament. Teams were determined by the ICC Women’s T20I rankings and qualification event.

Scotland Women’s team has been qualified for the T20 World Cup for the first time after defeating Ireland in the qualifiers.

Scotland has been listed under group B along with Bangladesh, England, South Africa, and West Indies. Scotland women’s will play their first match of the tournament against Bangladesh on October 3 in Sharjah.

Scotland will then move on to Dubai to play their second and third match of the tournament on October 6 and 9 against West Indies and South Africa. Scotland will return to Sharjah to play their last group match of the tournament on October 13 against England.

Following the squad announcement, Craig Wallace, Scotland Women’s Head Coach said: “This is a special day for everyone connected with this team. To be part of the first group of Scottish players to be selected for a senior Women’s World Cup is a great achievement, and the players and their families should be so proud.

“The makeup and balance of this squad is outstanding. We’ve got match-winners from start to finish within it, which I think is the big difference in the evolution of this squad during my short tenure. People have been putting in crucial performances each time they step onto the field, and that runs right the way through the squad.

“Whilst it was really tough, it was also actually enjoyable to select this squad, looking back at many of those great performances, and we know all fifteen players can go out there and win cricket matches for us at the World Cup.

“If you look at the recent Netherlands series, we won five games out of six, and there is a depth in the wider group now, proved by some of those who’ve not been selected but who’ve been pushing and performing all year. It was great to be able to argue about players’ cases in a positive sense based on the work they’ve all produced.

“I am so excited about what lies ahead. If we behave and play the way we have done during the last year, who knows what can happen at the World Cup – we could win as many games as we want to. The players play a great brand of cricket, and have so much belief in themselves, so the possibilities are limitless, really”.

West Indies legendary allrounder Dwayne Bravo is set to retire from the Caribbean Premier League after the ongoing 2024 season.

Bravo made this shocking announcement just before the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) opening game of CPL 2024 against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on August 31 in Basseterre.

He had led TKR to back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018 before captaining Patriots to their first title in 2021. Bravo was also a part of the TKR title-winning side as a player in the 2020 edition of the tournament.

Bravo took to Instagram to share the news with his fans, reflecting on his journey and expressing his excitement for his final professional tournament in the Caribbean.

“It’s been a great journey. Today I would like to announce my retirement from @cplt20. This season will be my last one and I’m looking forward to a playing my final professional tournament in front of my Caribbean ppl! @tkriders – where it all started for me and will end with my team that I help built from scratch,” Bravo captioned the video post.

Dwayne Bravo’s CPL retirement comes almost three years after his T20I retirement which he announced after West Indies’ early exit at the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE. The allrounder announced his IPL retirement in 2023, having won four titles with Chennai Super Kings.

Since his IPL retirement, Bravo has served as Chennai Super Kings’ bowling coach. Dwayne Bravo currently holds the record for the most wickets in CPL, with 128 scalps in 103 matches.

Pete Russell, CEO of the CPL, paid tribute to Bravo. “We are so grateful that Dwayne has been a part of our tournament since its inception in 2013 and his contribution to making the league what it is today is immeasurable.

The CPL has become known around the world as the biggest party in sport and Dwayne’s enthusiasm and amazing personality has done as much as anyone to bring that to life. We are certain that ‘Sir Champion’ will continue to play a massive role in T20 cricket going forward and we wish him all the best in the next chapter,” he said in a statement.

“We Will See Him” Salman Ali Agha Backs Babar Azam Amid Criticism

The Pakistan all-rounder Salman Ali Agha has backed Babar Azam despite Pakistan Cricket having been underperforming in recent days.

The star cricket Babar Azam has scored only 320 runs in the last 15 innings in the red ball format. His impressive score comes from Babar Azam scored 161 runs against New Zealand in a Test match in December 2022.

Since then he has struggled to get runs under his belt and his performance affects the side’s entire performance. Despite being criticized about his form, Salman Ali Agha has come out in defense of the player.

“Babar Azam is a world-class player. As a cricketer, you go through these phases. He has scored consistently throughout the last five years. Soon, we will see him scoring big runs for Pakistan again,” said Agha by the end of Day 01 in the second test against Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, Agha pointed out that the critics should also focus on the other players of the team highlighting that a single member could not be responsible for the team’s poor performance.

“As a cricketer, you have such phases in your life. There are 10 other players on the team, so you should focus on them. It’s fine if he’s struggling. He will return to scoring big runs very soon,” he added.

In the first test of the Bangladesh tour of Pakistan, Bangladesh scripted history by securing their first win over Pakistan. Bangladesh handed a 10-wicket defeat to Pakistan to register the massive first in their cricket history. Despite a century from Rizwan, Pakistan lost the first test match against Bangladesh.

Babar Azam scored 0 and 22 in the first test against Bangladesh. He scored 31 runs in the first innings of the second match played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Pakistan scored 274 runs in the first innings and Bangladesh scored 262 runs in the first innings. Pakistan lost 2 wickets for nine runs in the second innings and will be looking for a victory.

Mohsin Naqvi Likely to Replace Jay Shah As ACC President

The PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi will likely take over the ACC president following an official meeting in October-November later this year. He will succeed Jay Shah after the latter was named as ICC chairman.

The leadership changes align with ACC’s rotation policy in the Presidency. “When the ACC meets later this year, it will confirm that Naqvi will be the next president for a two-year term,” the PTI source quoted. “When Jay Shah steps down, the PCB chief will take over.”

Jay Shah has served as president of the ACC for four years having received an extension for a one-year term following the original three-year spell. Jay Shah was unanimously elected ICC chairman and will take over in December.

Naqvi’s two-year term will see him oversee the Asia Cup in 2025, which will be hosted in India. As a PCB chief and ACC president, Naqvi will also play in the upcoming role ICC Champions Trophy, which will be played in Pakistan in 2025.

Pakistan Cricket Team

Pakistan team has traveled to India last year to play in ODI World Cup after visiting the country in 2011 for ODi World Cup and 2016 for the T20 World Cup.

Naqvi was elected as chairman of PCB in February 2024 and also serves as Pakistan’s minister from March 2024. His nomination will be his third major role within the calendar year.

Naqvi will be facing a contentious scenario regarding the Indian National team’s participation in the Champions Trophy on Pakistan soil. The Indian team has not played in Pakistan since 2008.

India’s move on the Champions Trophy will be the base for Pakistan travelling to India for Asia Cup in next year.

The PCB chief has received criticism after a difficult start to his tenure including Pakistan’s loss in the first test match of this series against Bangladesh and the side’s elimination from the T20 World Cup in the group stage after a loss against the USA.

Danish Kaneria’s Reasons for India ‘Should not Go’ Pakistan for Champions Trophy

Danish Kaneria believes the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy should be held in a hybrid model, with India to play their fixtures in Dubai due to security reasons in Pakistan.

With the next ICC tournament set to be held in Pakistan, many reports have emerged that Indian players may not travel to Pakistan owing to security conditions.

BCCI has refused to allow their players to cross the borders to play in the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan due to the political tension between the countries.

Meanwhile, many legends like Shahid Afridi revealed their desire for Indian players to play in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan, former Pakistani spinner Danish Kaneria stated that the Indian team should not travel to Pakistan due to the ongoing situation in the country and the tournament will likely be held in a hybrid model with India’s matches being played in Dubai.

India vs Pakistan (image: ICC)

“Looking at the situation in Pakistan, I have to say that the Indian team should not go to Pakistan and Pakistan should think about it and then the ICC will make its decision and most likely, it will be a hybrid model, it will played in Dubai,” said Kaneria.

ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place in Pakistan between February and March. But India has not traveled to Pakistan since Asia Cup 2008. Kaneria said that BCCI is doing a great job concerning the safety of the players.

“The safety of the players is the first priority. Respect is the second priority. There are many things. I think BCCI is doing a great job. I think all the countries will accept the final decision. I think it will be a hybrid model,” Kaneria added.

Recently, former Pakistan Wk-batter Kamran Akmal had urged that India should travel to Pakistan despite the political tension between the countries. “I really enjoyed those times. India should travel to Pakistan, and Pakistan should go to India. Let’s keep the political matters aside and play and love cricket,” said Kamran Akmal.

Harbhajan Singh Slams India’s Captains, Coaches for Failures of Batter in home Tests

0
Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan Singh (image: X)

Harbhajan Singh has made a big dig at the Indian captain and coaches saying their plan of winning Test matches within three days is hurting the batters.

Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has blamed Indian Team management for preparing spin-friendly pitches to finish the Test in two and a half days. Pitches have always hogged the limelight before the start of a Test match in India.

The condition of it, whether hard or loose, how barren there are any rough patches, and most importantly, if it will turn from Day 01. India has been the runner in the WTC 2021-23 cycle after they suffered a defeat against Australia in the finals.

India’s stance in the last few years has been quite clear regarding home tests. They want to win and prove their strengths. Producing tracks assisting spinners from Day 01 has resulted in victories and played a crucial role in India’s still unbeaten run of 17 series at home.

“We’ve started playing on pitches that turn a lot more. We wanted to win and we did win but we wanted to win in two and a half days. I think, if we had produced normal pitches that started to turn from Day 3 and Day 4, we still would have won but the batters would have gotten time to settle in.”

India Test Cricket Team
India Test Cricket Team(Image: Twitter)

“And we wouldn’t be discussing the problems of our batters against spinners. We dented the confidence of our batters because anybody gets out (cheaply) on those pitches,” said Harbhajan Singh.

India’s fourth highest wicket-taker in Tests said India should trust its bowlers to produce results on normal pitches instead of going for rank turned as their dents the confidence,

“We still have a chance (to rectify this). If we pay on good pitches, I don’t think anyone can beat India. The pacers that India have, the spin attack that there is, they would definitely win you Tests on Day 5 if not on Day 3.”

“But if you play on good pitches, the batters will score runs, and their confidence will only go up when they score runs. So I don’t think our batters have forgotten to play spin but the conditions have been such (in the last few years) that it has become almost impossible,” he added.

India has been at the top of the WTC 2023-25 points table with 6 wins out of the 9 matches and Australia is in the second place with 8 wins in 12 matches.

With India’s home season 2024-25 would begin with taking on Bangladesh in a two-match test series starting on September 19 at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.

Gaby Lewis who has recovered from a quad strain he sustained in the first ODI against Sri Lanka earlier this month, will be returning for the white-ball squad for the series in England Women’s tour of Ireland 2024.

Meanwhile, captain Laura Delany is yet to recover from the ligament injury in the ankle in the second T20I against Sri Lanka.

Alice Tector, the sister of Ireland’s batter Harry Tector has earned a maiden T20I call-up. Una Raymond Hoey has returned to both the white-ball squads after picking up an injury in the first T20I against Sri Lanka. She had returned to international cricket after a five-year hiatus earlier this month.

“We are disappointed that Laura’s injury is more serious than first thought, and her years of experience and leadership will be missed,” national selector Ciara O’Brien said.

“However, Gaby has led before in Laura’s absence. We’re very comfortable with her stepping in to lead for the England series and know that she will bring her impeccable high standards to the role.

Lewis scored her maiden T20I century against Sri Lanka and is the leading run-scorer in T20Is. She captained Ireland in their first-ever ODI win over Sri Lanka, a series that saw Ireland pick up their first points in the Women’s Championship 2022-25.

“This is a young side, with an average age of less than 22 years, and we hope that all Irish cricket fans turn up and support the team.”

Twelve of the 14-member squad will be featured in both the white-ball squads. Alana Dalzell and Joanna Loughran are part of ODIs while Ava Canning and Christina Coulter Reilly feature in only the T20I squad. Ireland and England play three ODIs in Belfast before moving to Dublin for three T20Is.
