Expensive Players of DC in IPL 2022: Delhi Capitals who still struggle to lift their maiden IPL trophy enters the IPL 2022 auction with a purse value of INR 47.50 crores.

Delhi Capitals spend a massive INR 42.50 crores on retaining 4 of their previous player. Earlier to the IPL 2022 Auction all 8 existing teams announced their retained players list and released the remaining players to the auction pool from which the 2 new IPL teams are allowed to draft a maximum of 3 players each.

According to which, Lucknow Super Giants ropes KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, and uncapped player Ravi Bishnoi. Where Gujarat Titans picked Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, and Shubman Gill as their drafted players.

Delhi Capitals puts a massive effort into roping IPL 2021 CSK player Shardul Thakur to their squad. Shardul Thakur plays a key role in the CSK team for their IPL 2021 winning.

Notably, Shardul Thakur is the only player, that Delhi Capitals roped for INR 10+ crores in the IPL 2022 auction. Following are the details of the Expensive Picks of DC in IPL 2022 auction:

Shardul Thakur

Thakur was signed by Kings XI Punjab at the 2014 IPL player auction ahead of the 2015 season of Indian Premier League and made his debut against Delhi Daredevils.  In March 2017, he was acquired by Rising Pune Supergiants for the tenth season of the IPL and in January 2018, was bought by Chennai Super Kings ahead of the next season.

In 2019 Chennai reached the IPL final. Thakur took two wickets but was out off the final ball of the match with two runs required for victory. In February 2022, he was bought by the Delhi Capitals in the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League tournament.

Mitchell Marsh

Marsh was signed by Deccan Chargers for the 2010 Indian Premier League and in 2011 was bought by Pune Warriors, the team coached at the time by his father.

He played for Pune for the three years that the team existed and in 2016 and 2017 played for Rising Pune Supergiants for the two seasons that team existed.

He was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 2020 IPL, although he only played in one match of the competition due to injury, and he withdrew from the 2021 Indian Premier League due to bio-bubble fatigue during the pandemic. In the 2022 IPL Auction, Marsh was bought by the Delhi Capitals.

David Warner

Warner was signed by Delhi Daredevils for the 2009–10 seasons. During the 2009 tournament which was played in South Africa, Warner played seven games, scoring 163 runs at an average of 23.28 and with a strike-rate of 123.48.

Following the 2014 IPL auction, he was contracted by Sunrisers Hyderabad for US$880,000. In 2015, he was appointed captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Warner ended the season as the tournament’s leading run-scorer, rewarding him with the Orange cap, although SRH narrowly missed out on reaching the knock-out phase.

He was chosen to continue leading the team for a second season in 2016, in which he led the team to its first championship with 69 runs off 38 balls in the final against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Warner finished the season with 848 runs, the second-highest in the tournament.

For the 2018 IPL season, Warner was retained and appointed captain by Sunrisers Hyderabad, but he stepped down as captain following the events of ball-tampering in South Africa. The BCCI later announced that Warner would not be allowed to play in the 2018 IPL season.

For the 2019 IPL season, Warner returned to Sunrisers Hyderabad. On 27 February 2020, Warner was reinstated as captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad replacing Kane Williamson. On 18 October, Warner became the first overseas player and fourth overall to complete 5000 runs in the IPL.

After Sunrisers Hyderabad chose not to retain Warner, he entered the 2022 IPL auction with a base price of ₹2 crores as one of the marquee players. In the auction, he was bought by Delhi Capitals for ₹6.25 crores.

He has won the Orange Cap three times and has scored over 5000 runs.
